Well… Actually, Fluttershy has been getting character development for the entirety of the show’s run, so it isn’t limited to just Season 5/6 - Seasons 5 and 6 are just the seasons where she finally got to showcase that said growth.
 
That’s why it annoys me greatly when people say the past Fluttershy episodes like Flutter Brutter are the types of episodes that would make Fluttershy their favorite; but just seem to dismiss everything she learned beforehand..
 
Kudos to the people who genuinely loved or had no resentment towards Fluttershy since the beginning.

Season 5 too, with Cutie Map, Tanks For The Memories and Make New Friends, she showed her assertiveness there as well.
