I get what you’re saying, but going by the number of upvotes versus downvotes, plus a lot of comments enjoying this scene, I’d say the majority of people actually do find it funny. Which is probably why the show keeps doing it.

Unfortunately, far too many people seem to forget that, taken in context, this isn’t a slapstick routine, but one of Spike’s ‘friends’ actually slamming a suitcase shut on him.
 
To us it looks like slapstick, because we’re outside observers. As such, some people still manage to find it funny even though it really isn’t.
 
To those tempted to scream ‘SJW!’ or some such nonsense: bear in mind that Spike has disproportionately been on the receiving end of this stuff since the beginning of the show, thanks to it employing the tired, worn-out old trope of Double Standard: Female Abuse on Male. If it had been one of the girls getting this (other than Rainbow Dash, who seems to be considered an acceptable target), I can pretty much guarantee that the votes would be reversed.
 
I’ll not go into whether or not this is a child being mistreated, since Spike’s developmental status is up for debate, but even if it isn’t that still doesn’t make it right that he’s (seemingly, at any rate) being targeted yet again.

Which is funny for two reasons. It’s not happening to you, so you can laugh and say, “what a loser.” The other funny thing is that people find it funny until it seriously happens to them, then not so much.

Yeah, that’s the main problem with this scene. It’s just not good slapstick humor. Now if Spike were to do something to deserve it in the first place, it’d be funny. In fact, if Spike followed Rainbow by staying her suitcase, it’d be hilarious. (Someone make this into a fanfic!) But he’s already gotten enough screentime. Just my two cents.

I’d have no problem if it was funny. Weak, forced and unfunny slapstick is the worst kind of slapstick.

The second time with Pinkie wasn’t too bad. But the first time with the group, ouch. And many in the fandom sees Spike as a “child” character. How does that look to them?

Now, you learned the lesson Spike. Move to the Dragon Land or Crystal Empire, where you treated as an equal or a hero respectively.

Also theory time. If Spike was/is considered new Rainbow Dash, then obviously Rainbow Dash would want to take everything that comprises her being along with her, therefore Spike stuffed into a suitcase.

Spike fans, please quit the complaining. This is only a small part of the episode. He’s still got a chance to go back to a great character with lots of development next episodes. Don’t give up hope.

You guys take slapstick way too seriously. This is nothing compared to what Dash went through in the same episode.
