Pinkie and Pie are deceiving their respective friends, but they’re doing it for fun.  
I know you guys like to make a big deal out of these sort of things, but you have to remember one thing.  
This is Pinkie Pie we’re talking about. If it makes sense to her, that’s all that really matters.

We’re talking about a lot more than a simple prank here. It’s a big deal. A really big deal. Nice false equivalence you have there, though, considering Pinkie’s pranks have been lighthearted and insignificant, and even then she has her reservations about some stuff (such as pranking Fluttershy).

It’s not harmless, I’ve already explained why. If I was spending time with a friend, thinking I was bonding with the friend I know, and they revealed they were an impostor and that they’d tricked me, I would be furious, and more than a little hurt that the one I knew willingly pulled such an awful trick. It IS a cruel deception, that much I can assure you, and if you don’t see that or otherwise agree for whatever reason, then oh well, not much more can be said.
 
Hypothetically, if the Pinkies really wanted to visit each others worlds for a day or two, they could do so by making it completely clear to their friends and others about what they are doing, and there wouldn’t as much of a problem (still potentially problematic and very awkward, but let’s not get into that), but as a trick or prank it’s just a shitty, harmful, and totally deceitful thing to do.
 
I’m not saying the characters couldn’t get along with their cross-universe counterparts and become friends and stuff if it really happened, but they are a completely different individuals who do not share the same existing bonds and experiences, and it’s completely wrong and cruel for them to deceive people on who they are.

Taking it seriously? You’re the one who seems to take offense to it and be rather defensive about that.  
I don’t know what kind of trust issues you have but I’m pretty sure that the ponies we know and love don’t suffer the same (that kind of prank seems way more harmless than the infamous Mare-Do-Well scheme, and we know that this one upset Rainbow Dash much less than a good deal of bronies).
 
My point was that if the so-called impost**o**r cares as much about the people/ponies she’s fooling than the one she’s willingly replacing, like I’m sure Pinkie’s counterpart (both of them) would, there’s no malicious intent behind it (beyond the simple prank) and ultimately no harm done (it’s not like Pinkie is taking advantage of her counterpart’s friends, one way or the other), therefore no reason to view it as an act of cruelty.
 
Anyway I guess I got it that you would respond badly to that kind of prank (don’t worry, I don’t know any of your friends, nor if they have look-alikes I could hire), I understand it and I respect it. Doesn’t mean that everyone would perceive it the way you do though.

If she doesn’t make the universe explode, she’ll certainly make the comments section explode.

What doom and gloom? This is a hypothetical, and won’t happen. I’m just explaining why it’d be wrong and problematic, for those of you who insist on taking it seriously.
 
Anyway, I find what you’re suggesting to be very disagreeable, to say the least. It’s still ultimately an imposter and a different individual. It absolutely is wrong/cruel, and if a friend of mine tricked me like that, I’d be furious and very hurt.
 
And nobody said anything about it destroying the world, just that it would be cruel and deceitful, because again, it wouldn’t be the same Pinkie that their friends have shared experiences and bonds with; it’s absolutely awful to deceive your friends and others like that, letting yourself be replaced by a double that, while has the same personality pretty much, isn’t actually ‘you’. They can read up on each others experiences and stuff all they want, but that doesn’t mean they actually happened to each Pinkie, nor does it make it acceptable for them to go and trick their friends or others into thinking that they’re spending time with the Pinkie that they know.
 
It’s not about whether they could successfully do it, I’m sure they could fool people (depending on how close said people are to the original), at least for a little while, but that doesn’t make it right or not problematic. Anyway, I’m standing by all my points, because this is something I’m pretty darn sure about. I’m sure more could be said, but I really don’t want to drag this out more than necessary.

If each Pinkie has picked to replace herself an “impostor” that is so close to her in the first place, that she took time to fill in with the intricacies of living in Ponyville/Canterlot High, complete with all the details about her circle of friends and the history she has with every single of them (I’m pretty sure they read each other’s files and such), and that she trusts to do as good a job to maintain them as if she wasn’t gone and to keep her informed about what they’ve been up to in her absence, I fail to see how their friends could feel betrayed if they weren’t able to realize on their own that they’ve been dealing with an alternate version of their Pinkie half the time (it’s not like she’d have been replaced by a changeling or a mirror pool clone).  
At worst, Twilight might freak out for reasons related to the balance between words and using dimensional travel for such frivolous reasons, but we all know how Twilight is.
 
After the jig is up, I’m sure Pinkie’s friends would actually be eager to get to know better the alternate version of their best friend and what actually separates her from the original.
 
Really, the worst kind of effect I can imagine about this is that the stress of maintaining a “double life” may eventually take its toll on both Pinkies, but I’m sure they’d be reasonable enough to stop before things go wrong, right?
 
…Oh, who am I kidding, we all know by now that “reasonable” and “Pinkie” don’t belong in the same sentence.

And no, that kind of ‘prank’ would be a pretty cruel and deceiving thing to do to their friends or anyone else they’re close to. They may have pretty darn similar personalities and stuff like that, but they aren’t the same individual, as they are two completely separate instances of Pinkie who have no business attempting to trade places with that kind of deceit.
 
From the perspective of their friends and others, the Pinkie they know would be getting replaced by an imposter, someone they haven’t shared their time and experiences with, or forged the same bond with, and so on. It’s an instance of Pinkie and thus has the same personality/character and all that stuff, but it’s not the Pinkie they know and not the Pinkie they’ve been bonding with this whole time. Among other things.
 
That kind of deception is a pretty disturbing idea, for those reasons and others. It’s not even remotely a funny prank. I’m sure my comments aren’t exactly brightening up the mood here, but it’s something I needed to get off my chest. And again, this stuff is difficult to word/explain, especially when I just got up, but you get the idea.

You know what? I can totally envision both Pinkies agreeing to trade places like that, at first for short periods, so they can get accustomed to each other’s world and body, then for lenghtier and lenghtier spans of time (keeping one another updated on what they’ve been up in the other world each time they swap), until they can replace each other perfectly with nobody/pony being the wisest.
 
What do they get out of this? Easy: twice as many friends (and the opportunity to blow their minds once they tell them about it; I’m sure Pinkie (both of them) would find this prank hilarious).

‘Not taking it seriously’ in this case mostly means not falling into the trap of taking it as somehow canon or otherwise something that would ever actually happen. It’s a blooper reel, it’s a series of potential jokes and stuff like that, it’s not meant to be taken seriously or be seen as a serious part of the canon or anything like that.

It’s a blooper reel guys, this isn’t even remotely canon and I don’t know why you’d take it so seriously, as not taking it seriously is kind of the point. And that’s a good thing, because ‘swapping places’ is extremely problematic, and even that’s a huge understatement. MLP Pinkie and EQG Pinkie may have the same personality and all, but they are two completely separate individuals with their own lives, among other key things to consider.
 
They can’t just ‘swap’ with each other, that should be obvious. Sure, they could technically try to fool someone, but it would be extremely wrong and deceitful, as well as hugely problematic. This stuff is pretty hard to explain, but you get the idea.

Personality-wise, sure, they’re pretty darn similar. But they’re still two completely separate individuals who can’t just swap places or anything like that, not to mention it would be totally cruel to do to their friends and loved ones, because even if they have the same personality and all that stuff, they aren’t actually the same person (two separate instances of Pinkie, or whatever) if that’s a good way to put it. It’s rather difficult to word it right, I suppose.
