That’s all true. With that in mind, it’s not quite fair to say fire is wholly negative, nor wholly positive, so there is more facets to comparing someone to flames.

We’d also, most likely, not have gotten beyond the caveman stage without straight out genocide.
There were, supposedly, smarter humanoid races out there.
Races that would probably have won against us in the long run, once they managed to develop proper tools.
But, we killed them all while ‘attaching sharp rocks to pointy sticks’ was the height of technology - possibly even before that.

I don’t see any reason to consider ‘Fire is destructive’ and ‘Fire was needed for us to prosper’ to be contrasting statements.

Well, I mean, Discord is often compared to Loki.
If he’s not Loki himself, then certainly his descendant would be allowed to be.
And while I’m not certain anyone but me gives him this title, I’ve been calling them ‘Loki Wildfire’; If you look into the ‘lore’ of Loki, especially the meanings of the names of him and his parents, it seems like he’s a metaphor for fire born from lightning striking an evergreen tree.
His behaviors generally support it; While usually he is merely playing the role of a trickster, being Loki the Trickster, sometimes he really does seem to be a metaphor for fire (including being loyal to no man, taking more than people would freely give, and burning those who cease to respect him)
Plus there’s the whole ‘Loki was brought into their homes from the frozen wastelands’, which sounds a lot like someone finding a burning tree (after a lightning strike) and taking a few lit branches with them home to start a campfire or such.

Anyway, point is, Fire is a very appropriate element for the son of Loki Wildfire.
But Destruction is also a very appropriate element - Loki Wildfire is Loki’s most destructive aspect, I feel.
Even self-destruction, so of course Celestia is being reckless here.

Fire’s one of the most chaotic things in existence!

Then again, Celestia treats all of her subjects as her children to some extent, and has seen countless of them die (being over 1,000 years old), and knows injury is simply a part of life.

This is Discord’s first child ever, so he’s naturally a little leery of anything that could possibly harm his son.
