"By now, Ingontios has reached the Sixteen Towers. He raised his shield, drew his sword towards Embras, and stepped in front of his brother. 'What are you doing, Anomios?' he cried out, 'That dragon might have ripped you to pieces by now, if you do not kill it. Perhaps it has been left to starve, so that it would kill any intruder, or even that despotic princess, by now.'
"Anomios grabbed a crossbow, and shot a bird. He then fed it and some cakes in his pouch to Embras
||, who heartily picked the bird clean of its guts
||. 'What are _*you_* two waiting for,' the princess cried, 'Just take me downstairs already, before some prince or captain will bring his army, and kill us all!'
"'Stay back,' Anomios told his brother. 'This dragon will_*not_* tear me to pieces.' He pushed his brother aside, drew his own sword, and cut Embras' chains. Embras joyfully leaped to Anomios' chest, and embraced him.
Varinniar was furious._*Such is this servant boy_*, she thought, _*who would be mindless enough to risk his life to save a dangerous creature_*. _*What has gotten into him?_
*
"'Anomio,_*you idiot!_*' the princess screamed. 'You're supposed to save me! Come back here!'
"'Well, I will do it for you,' Ingontios responded. 'In fact, haven't you remembered when we wrote letters to each other, and danced together? With the dragon out of the way, I will get you downstairs in no time, sweetie.'
"'Oh, fine,' the princess fumed. She hurried down the tower's staircase, and both knight and princess snuck out of the fighting in the main hall through a backdoor, where Ingontios took a horse, and they rode out to safety.
"As for Anomios, he found that he is about to be cornered by Prince Daltorios' army. 'Do not worry,' Embras assured him, 'I still have some strength to carry you and fly out of the castle. Just trust me.' Being surrounded by soldiers that he alone cannot defeat, he has no other option. He ran towards the battlements, and jumped off the wall. Embras flapped her wings, dodging arrows here and there, and the landed in a forest near the castle, where they navigated their way out.
"For rescuing the last surviving heir of the Lorinsolian Empire, Sir Ingontios was rewarded with much wealth and treasure, enough for him to buy a little parcel of land for his own. Varinniar has became a nicer person from her friendship with Ingontios, and they married and started their family a few years later. Their descendants became a family of poets, artists, and scholars, some of which tried to improve the Lorinsolians' livelihoods.
"Sir Anomios was given a lesser prize for aiding Ingontios' efforts; even though he was supposed to lead the brothers, he did not rescue Varinniar, and so he was given lesser amounts of money. But he used it to buy his family an estate on an island, where he commissioned a school nearby for the fisher-folk who live along the coast. Embras was appointed as the guardian of Anomios, his wife, and his heirs, and was also hired to keep the island's students in line -- everyone knows that people tend to be scared of_*any_* kind of dragon, even if they are generally harmless, are they not?
"And even in their prosperity, the two brothers_*never_* forgot their friendship, as they lived not-so-happily ever after. It would not really be the end of their tales, nonetheless."
**This silly picture would be a playful inversion of the classic princess-dragon-knight tale, that it would make a good writing prompt!**
