I refer more to the Gray Wolf, which is a primarily North American animal.
In the scene where he is about to bust down the door with an axe so he can kill his wife, he recites the Big Bad Wolf’s lines in The Three Little Pigs. Throughout The Shining, Jack is associated with canines. He develops a wolf-like appearance throughout the film, his son watching Roadrunner cartoons featuring Wile E. Coyote, and the Big Bad Wolf lines. The wolf is a very American animal, and we all know how much the Overlook Hotel loves America. There’s a lot going on in The Shining; you could analyze it for years and still not even scratch the surface.
Yes, I’m a film major. I know what the shining is.
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” And all that.
I don’t recall anyone reading The Three Little Pigs in The Shining though… I think it’s just a joke.
…they’re watching The Shining. You know, Jack Nicholson, axe, Redrum.
