Kind of figure, given how these two premiers have gone, the movie is most likely going to be twilight and starlight meeting another character and the three going off on a quest to save equestria with spike while the other 5 just cameo for about five seconds and then dissapear for the movie.

I appreciate the spectacle of the Tirek fight but I sincerely hope they never try and get to that level of action again.

To critisize the Cutie Map of being too low key also means you’re doing a disservice to all those ponies who’s lives were being ruined by Starlight.
 
Hell, the lives of an entire empire were on the line here and none of the cast were strong enough to stop the storm. It’s not exactly like there’s no stakes.

I’m just going to say this right now; I really have a feeling that this opener will be mostly hated at first, but in the long run will end up being a favorite of a lot of people in the fandom.

We already have plenty of slice of life in the middle of the season: The two parters entire points are to be the high stakes big action episodes. The show has a mix of action/slice of life and has alot of fans that enjoy the adventure part of it (Hence the guardians of harmony line they’re planning on doing).
 
As such, flubbing the two parters does a disservice to that aspect of the show.

Exactly. You run the risk of sequel escalation is you just make the stakes bigger and bigger each time.
 
WE had an alicorn, then a chaos spirit, then an entire ARMY, then an evil emperor, then a being who can devour every bit of magic in the world.
 
You can’t keep going like this. It’ll become insanely stupid before long.

Ok but why is that a bad thing? Being more low key doesn’t mean they are inherently bad.

Its not that “not every” two parters don’t feel epic, its that the last 3 two parters have all felt way less epic and low key than previous ones. Even the time travel one didn’t feel like it measured up in action and purpose compared to the S4 or S2 finales, or even the S4 premier.

People generally considered the best parts of this opener to be Starlight’s scenes with Sunburst. The MOST slice of lifey scenes in the entire episode.
 
The episode everyone loved last season was Amending Fences. A pure Slice of Life episode.

Really though with this being the 6th season you can’t expect every season opener (and finale) to be something super epic. I really kind of compare this opener to The Best Night Ever. It was far more subdued and slice of lifeish then most which I think the show needed really.

Yeah. Gotta admit; While today’s episode wasn’t Terrible, it was still pretty freaking mediocre compared to other two parters.
 
its not like he’s churning out pure crap here, but when everyone who you’re compared to did a better job (larson, McCarthy, Faust), it still is worrisome.
