It was just used to create hope without even considering it as possibility. Show staff usually say so to avoid fan rage. Usually with sentences like “maybe” or “wait and see”. It doesn’t matter if you ask about Sparity or about return of Sombra or IDW reference.

Yeah, I probably should have said something along the lines of “most of the time” or “on average”. If it was truly and irredeemably abhorrent 100% of the time - like in Baby Cakes or Mare-do-Well - I wouldn’t touch the show with a stick that’s as long as, like, a very long stick. No matter how beautiful the animation is, or whatever.
 
As for not being perfect, well: the first two episodes show excellent form in world-building and characterization, but offer a plotline as bland as stale oatmeal. A lot of fans dislike these episodes or say it turned them off the idea, and yet they’re some of my favorites despite their glaring flaws.
 
The question isn’t whether something is great, it’s whether the good parts outweigh the bad ones.

My favorite headcanon is that Spike will still be a “baby dragon” even when he’s hundreds of years old. Because, you know, dragons.
 
In canon, the age of any of the mane six or even the CMC is pretty much non-existent as a value. Probably because the writers were too lazy to define it, but it works out well for a kid’s show because it moves the focus away from the common prejudice of how “mature” one should be at a certain age, whether they’re allowed to hold a job or run a business or, in Spike’s case, even attend school.
 
I’d like to think that ponies and dragons don’t age in the same way humans do, but that’s one of those complex ideas most people wouldn’t want to even consider, less of all put in a kid’s show.

From the very first moment, I had very little hope they’d handle Spike/Rarity relationship in any decent way. Because it’s a delicate subject and writing in MLP is, well, abysmal.
 
In the hands of a competent writer - I’ll use Rowling for this example - the setup could lead to a story about how sometimes a childhood crush falls apart on the first date because as much as you admire the person from a distance, you’re not invested in each other as people; that love is not the same as attraction to a kind-hearted or beautiful person. Maybe under Faust’s direction (she’s responsible for Spike’s crush on Rarity, after all) that was the original plan. Not likely, I don’t think, but maybe.
 
But instead the writing team created for themselves a hurdle they could not jump over, and instead of at least moving it into the background, they just kept on pouring fuel onto the fire by portraying Spike as a vain toddler and Rarity as oblivious at best and reducing the whole thing to a cheap joke at expense of making the characters seem like awful people.
 
Don’t overestimate your skills is the moral of the story, I suppose.

That sure looks to me like you’re saying they originally intended for him to be old enough to date Rarity, but then changed their minds and decided he’s a kid instead. I contend that he was always thought of by the show staff as being a kid.

I’ve consistently been the same # in this thread. Someone, maybe you, maybe not, was taken my comments, quoting them, and altering them to argue their point.
 
I’ve said since the first time I posted in this thread, he was always described as a baby dragon. The writers did not change his age. He’s a different species, he ages differently, and thus he can still be a “baby dragon” while being mentally old enough to hold conversations and have responsibilities. He has been called a baby dragon in-show multiple times. There is canon proof of his age (the flashback to when he was hatched gives a rough estimate to how old he is) and how long-lived dragons are.
 
I have not once criticized the writers, or said he was supposed to be older.
 
I have not once deviated from those points. Whatever anyone else is arguing, was not me.

Who knows what Hasbro and writers plan to do with Spike. As for now, Spike/Rarity and Discord/Fluttershy are the only 2 well developed male/female friendships in the show (Big Mac is kind of confusing with Cheerilee and Marble so I won’t adress him now) so maybe they have a chance to at one point in the series, grow closer than friends

Infinite? Doubtful. It could be, but all scientific evidence points to it likely being finite. There is no definite answer yet, but based on current observations it more plausible we live in a finite universe than an infinite one. However, we have no data one way or another on multiple universes, so maybe multiple realities exist, making it infinite in a different way.
 
I fully agree with your statement that our universe is usually much more interesting than fantasy, though. People calling reality mundane just haven’t learned to look around.
