I think Marble is smart too, While maud knows about stones and rocks a lot, I think marble has a lot of knowhow relating to stonework and stuff too having grown up on the rock farm. She just breaks the task down to Anon there in simple terms to what to do and why it is done so.  
Had it been Maud, she’d be spilling minute details on how the granite is formed and how to deduce the ideal angle of impact for the pick to get the highest separation by striking along the grain etc.
