For this time. It’s just a mark that Nightmare Moon made for fun. To show everypony in Equestria that she on the moon now. Herr have a new empire was made and ponies living here and she rule them. To show that she own the moon now. But mostly she made it just to troll Luna and all of you…watcher. Nightmare Moon evil laugh pass throught 4th wall

but this for me doesn’t at all answer this question, why is the mark in the moon back in this comic? That mark was there when Nmm was In the moon, at least that’s what the show gave us and I am just assuming here that in that certain situation, it made a lot more sense as it was a sort of sealing mark made by magic, ie, something or someone powerful was sealed inside of something or someone else, similar to Naruto’s jinchuriki, or any possessed objects in fantasy stories, when they usually bear strange markings to denote the presence of something or someone within it.

I know, right? I used name “bat pony” once in my fanfic, posted it, and got a massive crap-storm in the comments section: “They are thestrals, you moron!”. As I learned, there was many HP fans on that site, who promoted this name for bat ponies.

Darn, I really hate this Harry Potter-inspired name for bat ponies. Using an undead horse name for a nocturnal bat horse is… not right
