Even now, a lot of Cartoon Network shows can be pretty dark. Apparently (according to the TV Tropes page at least), in Adventure Time, there’s thinly veiled references to murder, genocide, and rape.

That show got away with some amazingly dark stuff. I actually prefer the cartoon version of the story; Terra was a lot more interesting as an effed up kid who got suckered by a master manipulator than as a straight up mercenary, because you can gib a double agent traitor with righteous fury and a clear conscience, but when someone started with honest good intentions but made a lot of mistakes and got turned traitor by a smooth criminal, it’s going to hurt taking them down. Broken heroes are a lot more heartwrenching than pure villains.

Oh no, man, I am totally biting that– “Jeez, why are people so bitch about this episode? It wasn’t all that bad.” “They were trying to make Ponyville nice for the Yakyakistan delegation, but the Yaks were so bitch about everything that none of it worked.”
I also love how people get so bitch about the show and go ‘OH THE SHOW IS ABOUT SELLING TOYS NOW, SCREW IT I’M LEAVING..despite the fact the show has always been about that.
That’s like forgetting that Teen Titans is based on a comic series or how Transformers/TMNT (especially the new series) pump out more toys and don’t even try to hide it on the shows.

The tone whiplash at /mlp/ must be brutal right now; they’ve apparently been on an anti-Faust jag for a while, and now here’s this new thing that’s RUINING FAUST’S VISON 5EVER!!1!, nevermind that there are plenty of ways to make it all make perfect sense in a cartoon horse fantasy world.
Because it’s true. We know nothing about the character or episode yet, so why get worked up? I’m far happier trusting that the people working on the show will do their best to make it great.
Plus little Flurry Heart is kind of cute. Not really a great point, but just throwing that out there.
