I always liked the concept of AJ getting messy/dirty (falls into mud etc.) and Rarity tidying/cleaning her up (makes her hair etc.), and AJ getting annoyed in a tsundere way :D.

What’s wrong with SunsetDash? :D

I was always a Flutterdasher myself, but I see the appeal of Twidash in fiction. Especially in Humanized/EqG format. The nerd/jock combo works very well in High school setting. And much more effictively than Appledash, where even in pone one or the others often turns to be too mushy OOC.

Well Rarity is better for Applejack, that’s for sure. That’s why this is my favorite MLP yuri shipping. IDK why, but they just look like the perfect lesbian couple :D

FlutterDash only has more fics on fimfic because the folders in the group are not very organized, and have numerous duplicates - which is counted each time. I’d say it’s either equal or AppleDash has a bit more.

So why does TwiDash have the most fic? because among the fan fiction community Twilight and Rainbow have dispropotionate popularity compared to the rest of the fandom (not saying they aren’t very popular in the fandom at large but you know you are significantly more popular in one section of the community when you beat 4 of the 6 main cast members by 4 to 1 in fic like Twilight does with fan fic). Why does Rarijack have a lot more art than it does fic? Because Rarity and Applejack are apparently more popular with the artist section of the community than the fan fic section. It’s pretty simple.
 
I bet if you did a massive poll of say 500 Rarijack and AppleDash shippers too you’d find that among the Rarijack group Rarity is the one most would pick as their “favorite character” while with AppleDash it’d be Rainbow Dash, simply because those two are just more popular in the fandom at large than Applejack by a significant margin.

I actually think RariDash has quite a bit of decent backing now that they FINALLY have an episode, and like TwiDash people have always given decent explanations for why it works (shared ambitious natures etc etc).
 
Anyway here’s the ultimate fact, beyond what people find cute, beyond what they think theoretically “works best” people are more likely to ship things if it includes at least one of their favorite characters. And I can’t say I am not like that, my favorite character is Rarity, my top 3 ships are Rarijack, SunLight and RariDash. So she’s in two of my top 3, and just to keep going, Applejack, Sunset and Rainbow would all rank pretty high personally with me too.

Well you are correct, people will ship what they ship for all sorts of reasons. though I actually think Flarity is one of the easiest ships to do and am surprised it’s so small, there’s plenty to work with there. The others you listed not so much but if you want to ship them then whatever.
 
Also I don’t dislike MarbleMac because it’s cliche, I dislike it because I find it boring and I honestly kind of hate Marble Pie and her entire archetype.

Yeah but they do a pretty good job of explaining why they like TwiDash so much. The first ship I’ve ever shipped in my entire life was TwiDash simply because of them. I always thought ships were just people finding 2 characters cute as a couple (i. e., RariDash). Didn’t know it could go so deep. Not saying ships like RariDash are bad. There are all kinds of ships, all awesome in their own way. Heck, I’ve basically shippied all of the 5 ships up above at least once in my life, and had fun with all of them. (Except AppleDash, It just doesn’t click for me.) Right now I’m shipping SunsetDash, but it still makes me all giddy inside when I see pics of my old ships.

Do we really have to ship things because it has “good chemistry and characterization and isn’t a cliché” and all that? What happened to shipping things because you think they’re cute together?
 
Heck, it’s why I ship things like Flarity, Twixie, Marblemac or Twishy. I think it’s cute. :)
 
All these ships are cute IMO; and people shouldn’t bash people for liking a ship because it’s “cliché” or “has no interaction or chemistry” or “it would never happen”. I see a lot of dislike with Marblemac because of this.
 
I ship Marblemac because, well, they’re cute together. I don’t care about all the reasons why they’re a bad ship.
 
For instance, I personally don’t like Rarijack, but I’m not gonna rip people apart for liking it. To each their own!

See here’s the thing, you guys you try and look at this from a real life perspective, I don’t really care about who is the most “realistically compatable” I care about what’s the most theoretically interesting, fun and compelling thing to watch/read. It’s pretty rare that Applejack and Rainbow entertain me together, and this is Applejack the character who I think has the most verstility when it comes to dynamics with the rest of the cast. But I think her with Rainbow Dash and her with Fluttershy has never really made me go “man that’s entertaining and fun”
 
But regardless Anyway I disagree with your premise on that being the reason they don’t get many episodes together anyway, I think the real reason is just that it’s not among the writers favored pair-ups (aside from Josh Haber apparently, he’s mentioned liking them) while Rarity and Applejack, Pinkie and Dash, Dash and Fluttershy and recently Pinkie and Applejack are just things the writers like to write more. I mean you could get as much conflict easily out of say Rarity and Pinkie Pie than you could out of Rarity and Applejack or Rainbow Dash and Twilight, honestly you could probably get more as their is actually less common ground there, but they write Rarity and Pinkie Pie together FAR less than those other two pairs. And just to go further with this you have Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash theoretically this should be a pairing that should get lots of easy conflict, but in most of the episodes they are paired up they are actually quite supportive, it’s in other episodes where their interactions are more minor that there tends to be conflict there.
 
Also I could easily make up a relationship problem between Rainbow and Applejack, they are both athletic and stuff but you still got that status quo vs Ambition conflict among other things.

AppleDash remains popular because there’s literally nothing wrong with it. The two are almost completely compatible in nearly all aspects of their lives.
 
Their lack of episode coverage isn’t a disadvantage. If you look at any episode where another ship is covered, they have some kind of relationship problem that has to be overcome. Applejack and Rainbow Dash haven’t really HAD any relationship problems lately. To see their coverage, you have to look closely. Their relationship has been more… subtextual lately, simply because they get along so well. They don’t HAVE any friendship issues to resolve, and it’s pretty hard to craft an episode around a problem that isn’t there. :P
 
If you really want to see some AppleDash, pay close attention to when they’re on-screen together. There are brief glimpses of what their relationship is like, but it’s more background these days. You just have to look to find it. Their lack of episodes is actually more of an indication that they’re a very good match.

I actually remember a time when TwiDash utterly crushed both AppleDash and Rarijack in art, for some reason starting around 2014 TwiDash’s art output started to slow even while it’s fic output did not allowing AppleDash to pass it up and Rarijack to pass it up by even more.
