the ones about robin and knuxβs mom i didnβt know.
Not sure, though Penders is including Geoffrey & other characters who look similarto how they originally did. Even an expy of Knuckles to. (Which makes him look a bit hypocritical, as he didnβt want Sega/Archie using his characters, but feels he can use theirβs & their designs in subtle ways.)
Β
Though, the fault was more with Pendersβ then Sega. It was more like βHow did Ken hope to copyright characters behind Sega & Archieβs backs when they were originally made for their Sonic comic, and resemble Segaβs characters like Knuckles.β Β
Ken trying to copyright βKnucklesβ Mother,β or βRobin Hood the Hedgehog,β is like how Chris Chan tried to do that with Sonichu.
art is really an acquired taste (likenesses with the old characters canβt be used because of the settlement case right?).
Β
though what the heck was sega thinking using a bunch of echidnas that are too close to the stuff penders made (or did they think they own the characters anyway but changed it slightly so penders canβt get a cut?).
Back around shorly before Knuckles got his own comic, Sega basically let Ken Penders do with Knuckles what they didnβt want him to do with Sonic. Penders basically gave Knux & his people more backstory then Sonic, as a result, and lots of it.
Β
Though, now they canβt use any of the old Knuckles mythos. Ken intends to continue it (or at least past his βMobius 25 Years Laterβ series) in what appears to be an odd upcoming sci-fi-ish comic thoughβ¦ >>719017
is it accurate that archie comics has turned knuckles into what marvel comics did for rom:spaceknight?
Β
basically the original source provided more or less a blank slate then they developed a world around that character, enough to create a rich mythology.
No clue, but they were pretty good regardless. (Though, I havenβt gotten to the second crossover yet. Shame, βcause I saw other Capcom & Sega series characters appear in it too.)
Β
To think Nintendo turned down Archie Comics⦠(Years back, they tried to pitch a new comic based on their properties. Art from the pitch by Tracey Yardley can be found online featuring Mario, Kirby, and Metroid. Nintendo is notorious for turning down things like that.)
Β
We couldβve had an official Sonic, Megaman, AND Mario crossover comic! (I would kill for that.)
Edited
how different would the megaman crossovers wouldβve been without restrictions?
Indeed, itβs a shame as the comics used to have alot of freedom and fewer mandatesβ¦ (Thanks, Ken Pendersβ¦) I especially find that the characters canβt change clothes, or have relatives (even Uncle Chuck & Snively are no longer relatives sense the reboot) are quite ridiculous on Segaβs part. (Especially, considering they allowed that for the βSonic Boomβ canon.) I also kinda wish they were still allowed to call Sonicβs homeworld βMobius,β (which helped differentiate the comic canon from the game canon, something Sega originally wanted ironically) or occasionally call Eggman βRobotnikβ sometimes.
Β
Funny thing isβ¦ In the reprint/collection books (βSonic Archives,β βSonic Selects,β βSonic Legacy,β βKnuckles Archives,β ect.) everything in the old canons is completely in tact & unchanged which may confuse newer readers.
Β
Sorry, to go off on a tangent, but the comics were my favorite Sonic canon, and Iβm still bummed over the Penders fiascoβ¦ Β
(Admittedly, some new things in the new canon are nice though. Like the aquatic characters, and reboots of old cartoon Sonic characters like Breezie & Von Schlemmer. The pseudo-βSonic the Fightersβ adaptation story complete with introducing Honey the cat was nice too.)
Itβll take a penders-level fiasco for MLP to get the sonic treatment (saw some of the restrictions on tvtropes about what the comic canβt and can do. makes me wonder how they could go with that much restrictions).
Β
but yeah, lots of artists have different strengths that design-accuracy never becomes a problem.
I feel the exact same way. I guess as you say fans hold fanartists and official artists to different standards. (Which I honestly feel is a liβl bit unfair.) If Jay was a fanartist, I doubt heβd get much hate.
Β
Still, personally Iβd find it dull if every artist drew in the show style. Fosgitt & this artist are nice change of pace. While some are good at emulating the show, but still retaining their own version of it, (like Andy Price) I kinda wish we had other artists on the comic who have more-so their own style too, but still make βem feel like MLP.
Β
The official Sonic comic used to have many artists with different styles working on it, but nowadays they seem required to draw in a more Sega uniform style. While thatβs fine (some like Yardley & Ben Bates are good at it) I kinda miss seeing the characters drawn in other ways, and in different styles. Β
I just hope the backlash over Fosgitt doesnβt create a similar mandate on the MLP comic.
Β
@Mellow91
Β
really confuses me to no end why some users are mad that fosgitt (and by extension other IDW artists) doesnβt follow the cartoon designs but have no problems with every other fan artist in this site whatsoever (i guess if youβre an official artist, you have to follow the original designs).
Iβm on the fence about Fosgittβs artwork. But yeah, I do like this unique style here
I like it, and much like Jay Fosgittβs βcontroversialβ art for the official comic book, itβs nice to see official artwork that doesnβt try to copy the show for once.
XD Β
She probably has Adagio Island instead. :P
Haha XD
Damn, you Michael Bay! BOOM
Β
@thps48
Β
Wow, that is a lot of explosions! Β
Some bronies like explosions, right? Β
Now I am all the more surprised that G1 isnt getting enough love!
Β
I never looked up Katrinaβs defeat. Somepony someplace said how, but many years ago. XD
I don
t think there
s anything wrong really with G1 and such, but there are still bronies out there who stubbornly believe that it is worse than it really is when compared to G4.Β
And if you look more closely, the earliest generations did have its share of great (even dark at times) moments! Β
I guess it`s a case of judging a book by its cover.
Whatβs wrong with previous generations? I mean, besides 3.5?
It may be because the artwork style is every-so-slightly reminiscent of previous generations. That doesnβt faze me, but that could be a reason why some donβt dig this
Yeah, doesnβt seem girly to me at all.
