Emerald says that he is Joyride’s apprentice and just recently became so. Keeping up with his disguise, he says that his name is Sapphire and that he is female.
 
“Now now dear, you can’t fool me! I know a colt when I see one.” The matronly shopkeeper says tittering, and then suddenly looking back at Emerald says, “Oh! You are one of ‘those’ kind of ponies aren’t you? Yes, of course you are a filly, my dear. Please excuses my rudeness.”
 
Emerald watches Whole Wheat gather food for a while, and decides since he isn’t doing anything to go and help, picking up an apple and handing it to her. She seems to appreciate the help, and the two pass the time by having unremarkable small talk. Soon enough the food is gathered and Emerald pays for it. Whole Wheat offers him a candy bar for the help he gave and he happily takes it. She also agrees to drop off the food later for a few extra bits, and after waving goodbye to the friendly mare Emerald takes to the street again.
 
It’s late afternoon, but there is still some light left in this day. Maybe there is something else he can do before he returns to Joy’s?
