Maybe I do take it a bit too seriously but then again I still kinda think there’s not much real humor in this. I don’t think it’s a stereotype joke either because, like I mentioned earlier, why would anyone think that all earth ponies are farmers? Even stereotypes need some kind of truth base to be considered a stereotype.  
Of course being a farmer is a damn important job because we all need to eat, be it ponies or humans. Still, a joke is not really good if one has to explain it and especially if even after the explanation it doesn’t seem fun at all.

I don’t know what happened to his sense of humour. He used to write genuinely witty and funny comics, then he wrote “Age (In)Appropriate”, and his jokes were just relegated to “ha ha, isn’t that horrible?”

I’d say that the “joke” here is probably about as funny as stepping on someone’s glasses after letting him crawl around on his knees to find them.

Am I the only one who notices each time P-B posts yet again another one of these comics, it causes drama in the comments.

I really don’t consider them races as much as I think they’re just ponies with different features. To me it’s like the equivalent of people with curly hair or freckles or well-endowed private parts, but I digress. Like you said, these are fictional cartoon horses; there’s no such thing as unicorns, pegasi or even “earth ponies” for that matter.

It’s pretty easy to tell where people got it from. The comic is joking about all earth ponies being a certain way. Earth ponies are a race as they have physical differences from the other two races. Therefore, it is about “races.” Still no reason to kick up a stink as it is a joke about fictional cartoon horses.

I think you might taking it too seriously and reading too far into it. Even if you don’t find it funny a joke is a joke. It’s just a joke about stereotypes is all. It doesn’t have to be realistic. A lot of humour is unrealistic hyperbole and exaggeration.

This right here. I saw this comic as more like something dealing with occupations and job hierarchy, not “races”. It really confuses me where people got that from.

Yeah, the humor here is pretty thin.
 
I like some of PB’s other comics, especially the ones that poke fun at popular fanon. (And people get upset at those, too.) His humor is really hit-or-miss, though. As in this case, often my reaction is “Why would ponies ever act this way, and why would it be funny for them to do so?”
 
I don’t throw an internet hissy fit over it, though.

Without touching the drama part here, I still don’t really get the joke in this. I mean it’s obvious that not all earth ponies are farmers so why would anyone act like Dash or that OC here? Most influential and famous ponies in Equestria are earth ponies and even though earth ponies are the ones that grow the food for all, it doesn’t mean that they all do that.  
Just like not all pegasi work for weather control and not all unicorns are… well… unemployed.
 
Or is this just another case where “certain” kind of people try to make earth ponies look worse than they canonically are while trying to make others look better than they really are?

Nevermind, I just read the new replies. Damn, that’s just…stupid… I mean, it’s a pony world with imaginary species, people…

The OC (and now Rainbow) is insulting/being racist against Earth ponies. Some people love Earth ponies and/or hate racist themes in art.
 
Apparently this is reason enough to have jimmies rustled to the point of insulting real-life people.

…And why were people harassing the OC owner? If the dialogue is the same, then what were they offended about? I see nothing wrong with this comic…

It’s pretty much exactly what you see here. In the original, there was an OC pony, and apparently people got upset at the OC’s owner. The OC pony was recolored to be Rainbow Dash.
 
Everything else is the same, including the dialogue (except AJ now says “Rainbow” where she said the OC’s name previously).

The only thing different in the original was that Rainbow Dash was an OC before. I think it was changed because the owner of the OC was harassed.

Well, the content is still there, but the words are coming out of the mouth of another character. Rainbow Dash in this image was originally a pink-maned, yellow-coated OC, but the artist changed it because the owner of the OC was harassed… Well, really, you can see it in the link in the description about the context.

I think what’s sad, aside from the fact people got offended, is that I’ll probably never know what was in the original comic that got people so offended in the first place.
