Yup, that’s what I originally wanted to sau! There is not enough proof for either version, so it is up to audience to decide whether they were dispatched or not. Therefore, it would be more correct for Chrysalis in this picture to say something like “I conquered Canterlot and probably all of Equestria too!” than what she is originally saying!

If it’s known that they fell. They aren’t friends here, and Dash and AJ could even still be living in Cloudsdale and Manehatten. Because of Dash never performing the Sonic Rainboom she’s not going to be as well known, and outside of being an element bearer Applejack was really only known about because of Sweet Apple Acres. From a storytelling perspective the only reason to have Chrysalis and her changelings disguised as them and them not being present in the resistance is to hint at their capture to the audience.
 
Through Chrysalis’ actions you can assume that she didn’t expect to fool anyone and was just screwing with them. She sure shed her disguise quick without even trying to bluff herself after Zecora’s accusation. And she had already infiltrated the resistance village, this was just an attack to wipe them out after discovering them.
 
Still, there’s definitely room to assume that they’re in hiding somewhere. I’m just saying if someone assumes they were captured or even “annihilated” you can’t say their interpretation is wrong because there isn’t enough proof.

Others may simply retreat in another direction after fending off the initial changeling wave. All three are capable fighters and Equestria in a big place… So I’ll believe in their capture/demise only when I see the bodies myself, no less! Besides, if they’ve fallen earlier it would be no point for Chrysalis and her minions to disguise as them.

Actually, the six did get overwhelmed and captured when fighting together.

Yes, it is unknown for certain, but it’s pretty likely. Even with all six fighting together in A Canterlot Wedding they were getting overwhelmed. There’s not much reason to assume they didn’t get captured. Or to assume that Ponyville, or even all of Equestria, isn’t under changeling control. Because that’s the most logical reason for them to be hiding out in the forest they were all so afraid of, and the invasion began in Canterlot, which is pretty much Equestria’s capital. If Chrysalis defeated Celestia and Luna, and she was clearly capable of doing so, there isn’t much to stop her from taking over all of Equestria.

I’ve had to explain this about 6 times since the S5 finale.

Actually it is unknown whether Chrysalis really killed/captured AJ, Rarity and Dash. It is even unknown whether she captured Ponyville for real. To assume someone’s form changelings don’t need originals being dispatched.
