As I stated, when she was in charge, Lauren Faust didn’t want the ponies to have too modern of technology (I forget if she stated why) so she made it so that they didn’t have electrical technology. Anything that would normally be electrical instead works via magic. I’m not sure if the team stated a reversal of this rule after Faust left or not. As far as I know they did not.

You don’t NEED to hail a cab. You fly. And teleport.

Possibly, though I think Equestria skips the electricity step and converts magic into use. I.E. an Equestrian lamp converts magical energy into light, an Equestrian refrigerator use magic to make cold (or move heat out of the box if you want to mix real physics with your magic) and so forth. I’m not sure how that precludes modern technology, though. Sure, each spell effect used to make the devices needs to be researched individually, but so did the electricity using devices in real life.

The world of Fairy Tail uses magic crystals called Lacrima to generate things like electricity and heat. Other dimensions probably use magic similarly including Equestria. :3

Nope. At least not quite. Lauren Faust didn’t want the ponies to be too technologically advanced, but needed some modern technology for some gags and such to work. So anytime you see something that would run on electrical power irl, it instead works via magic.

Headcanon: Ever since Equestria was unified, the Unicorns were allowed to retain all of their aristocratic titles. However, the Earth ponies were freed from any obligation to submit to them like they were forced to in the past. These days, most ponies have forgotten about that and just roll with the Unicorns’ pretentions to nobility. Some though, like the Manehattan ponies, are a little more passive-aggressive about it. Ignoring a “princess” is their way of sticking it to The Man.

“Well, at least you have the castle staff to keep it clean for you.”

I have wondered what the big dam that we see in “Mysterious Mare-Do-Well” is for if they don’t canonically have electrical technology. I know it breaking would wash away Ponyville (and probably a few other towns) but destruction like that is caused because of the lake of water created by the dam being released. Is the dam just for a water reservoir?
