I can easily argue the validity of that moment for a self levitation. Since what I see in this scene is self momentum stopping.
 
Also I don’t say self levitation is not possible. I am saying it shouldn’t be possible.
 
If you want my argument as to why in that scene were Twilight stop herself from falling is not self levitation. I’ll give it

And Twilight even says that she realizes she can’t beat her, which probably implies that they’re pretty evenly matched power wise. If there is any difference, it’s probably in skill sets, which the fight scene you mentioned implies. Twilight definitely strikes me as the kind who would learn more about defensive spells than attack ones.

well she has a real talent for magic but also the map boosted her powers to the point that this fight ended in a draw…still epic through

We would also love to see more scenes of colorful horses beating the crap out of evil as well!

I’m amazed that Starlight is able to levitate herself and still cast attack magic at the same time. Dual casting must be for the most powerful of unicorns.

People seem to forget that Twilight as a unicorn could self-levitate as well.
 
Some things to note that throughout all these little fights, Starlight always dodges while Twilight almost always puts up a shield instead. It has interesting implications in terms of how strong they are.

Twilight used a spell on herself and Pinkie (Rarity had the magic wings) that allowed them to walk on clouds. It’s not much a stretch that a spell exists to make self-levitation a possibility. Is that also a slap in the to Pegasus?  
Starlight dug into Starswirl’s spells, there’s no telling what she found. Fuck, she altered one of his spells to her benefit. For all we know, Starlight learned how levitate all by herself.

What cringe me the most is how powerful starlight is actually. No one and really NO ONE managed to fly using their own magic like that except for magic outburst of new born foal. Making this whole thing damn ridiculous and just slapping in the face of Pegasus with that feat which should be impossible. If she’s able to go back in time like that, just fucking give her a spell that give her wings, not make her just float like that that’s stupid.

Can I just express my bemusement with all the people saying that Twilight is overpowered now she’s an alicorn? Because since she got those wings, she’s got her butt kicked a LOT.
