The bit of dialog at the end suggested that while they don’t expect her to turn bad, they’re going to keep an eye on her as she’s too powerful. Implying she will live in Ponyville for the short term future.
 
But yeah, having her return to Stalliongrad to be its reformed mayor would also be a convenient way to avoid writing about her again too. Which I’d not really like but could work for a longer solution. The show is pushing on world building (good), and it needs a few regular characters that don’t require devoting a third of the episode to developing the first time, so having characters like Coco, or Sassy Saddles, etc. at various other locations could be useful too. Its just that there’s little reason for the Mane 6 to go back there unlike with Manehatten or Canterlot.

Someone explain how Starlight’s redemption makes sense.

true, I mean she could go back to her town and be a good mayor, while still learning.

There is little reason not to have her back, as her VA is local to DHX and does a lot of other VA (including some other voices on MLP), unlike, say, Katheline Barr for Trixie/Crysalis, etc.
 
I really do hope that since nothing of the status quo from S5 has changed (we still have the map, for example), that she’s there learning from Twilight in a few episodes, with Twilight learning from her too.

Even after all this, Spike looks like he tripped up at the end.

Starlight: Um….how long are we’re stuck this way?

so…does this mean she is apart of the team? I mean we have season sixcoming, so….she could be apart of the mane six. I like this idea, and see the possibilities of episodes.

I must admit I love Starlight’s pose in this. Like a kid with renewed hope…. cursesed redemption!
