“So’s” So is. As in “this one too”.
nah this one
So’s this Ed:
Hey that’s not nice! Ed is a lot smarter than most politicians!
Credibility runs from zero to negative numbers with almost anyone.
Take the United States for example. Say it in the voice of Ed from Ed, Edd, and Eddy: “HUR DUR we gotta police the world in the name of human rights and democracy and freeeeeedumb durp” yet look at some of the allies they staunchly keep and expend much capital to keep in power. VERY much the opposite of that propaganda there.
Brains can wilt if too much thought is put into it.
Welcome to politics.
How exactly does this ruin the lives of real people?
Fair enough
I think that might be technically called something else when that happens. Like vehicular manslaughter or something.
But that’s just being semantic.
Potentially another driver or a pedestrian?
You’ll note that the article employs the age-old trick of putting the controversial part (namely manga and anime) in the title and first paragraphs, while the rest of the article deals with actual child pornography, molestation, and exploitation.
{buzzes for a Jeopardy answer}
What is TPP?

Wow, while the content in question is very hard to defend, it is also unnerving that censorship is urged of works of fiction by an outside authority upon a given country. Who knows what precedent that could make?
There’s also the whole thing about fictional violent crimes being incredibly legal to depict.
Also fictional thievery.
And fictional arson.
And near all the other crimes also being legal to depict a fictional telling of.
Actual words an actual judge actually said about fictional child pornography:
“There doesn’t need to be a victim for there to be a crime.”
Which, while technically correct and all (I mean if you break the speed limit, who’s the victim?), is a laughably misapplied statement when dealing with accusing someone of raping a child that does not actually exist. It’s not about the child pornography, it’s not about pedophilia, it’s not about social standards. It’s about the fact that you’re setting a precedent for punishing people for a crime that makes negative logical sense because nobody has actually done anything wrong. It immediately begs the question “why isn’t ALL fictional porn automatically rape?” since fictional characters cannot give consent. It’s an argument founded entirely on reactionary sensationalism and it WILL RUIN THE LIVES OF REAL PEOPLE because children who don’t exist are more important than actual living people who do exist.
Yeah, probably the in same way Call of Duty causes mass shootings.
@atalarikt
The UN actually addressed Japan on that?
“Or else we will be very, very angry with you. And we will write you a letter telling you how angry we are.”
It’s a bit unfair to stop one crime that didn’t actually happen without stopping all the other crimes that don’t actually happen, isn’t it?
Ah, I was wondering whether this was a reference to any recent event or just generic tinfoil-hat, black-helicopter, conspiracy stuff.
As for Japan… Well, on the one hand it’s laudable that they legally allow wank material that their paedophiles can get off to, without exploiting and molesting real children in the production – but on the other hand, when the sexualisation of children and teens in art and animation becomes too entrenched and “mainstream”, it surely has an encouraging effect on those who think they can live out their fantasies with actual school-girls, rather than just drawn ones. It’s a delicate balancing act, and while most of the western world has gleefully jumped off the slippery slope in one direction into full-blown hysteria, Japan may very well be tumbling down the other side into laissez-faire permissiveness.
The day the UN really goes downhill is when they become a moral crusader organization.
But they’ve gone downhill since forever, so what the hell am I talking about?
They recently asked Japan to stop making sexually oriented material that contains loli in it.
