I really don’t know what to say to this. You’re seriously implying the CMC cutie mark designs are better than the ones you mentioned just because there’s more to them?
 
I’m wondering now if ponies with extra eyes and legs sprouting all over their bodies started appearing on the show, if you would say “Man, these are so much better than those lazy 2-eyes-4-legs designs.”

Believe it or not, it’s not really done for the purpose of porn, but just to make it realistic. Of course some are going to treat it like porn, but I doubt most will.

Well…There’s apparently a team devoted to editing each episode to make them…Anatomically correct…For some reason. How long until we get an edit with these marks instead?

Personally, I don’t mind them using the colors of their manes. I think the problem is that they used the dullest shades of those colors possible.

Everyone saying this loses most of the symbolism…Uhh, no. It doesn’t. It just makes it look less ugly. The symbolism of the three fillies being together is represented in the shield each had gotten which is very similar to the ones on their old cloaks back in Stare Master. It would be obvious when they’re together that that shield would represent their group.
 
What we got instead was an ugly and senseless mishmash of colors.

Again, if you don’t want to lose the symbolism AND want a nicer bunch of colors than their manes, use the nice primary red blue and yellow from the CMC capes.

The one thing from the original color scheme of their cutie marks I am not a fan of would be the colors used inside the shield. As in the two symbols inside that are overlapping. Having purple being placed over the red to purple stripes makes it harder to make out due to the colors blending too well. If they had those colors be more like what is above then I would be more approving of it. I wouldn’t even care if they were all the same color. Just something to help make those marks inside stand out.

Freakin’ Rainbow Dash has less colors that the CMC’s canon marks.

Personally, they tried too hard with the symbolism. If I tried to make a cutie mark symbolizing alchemy, weather, magic, sewing, pears, and friendship, it too would look like a horridly mangled mess.  
In the original, they tried cramming, the idea of the CMC club, the CMCs themselves, a sub-mark, and a overlay (ex, for scoots, lighting wing)  
Imo, they could afford to drop the symbolism of the CMCs themselves. The shield itself already symbolizes the club the three had formed.  
Hell, look at how much theorycrafting we have made with the 5 stars orbiting Twi’s big star.

It’s an interesting trade-off of visual appeal vs symbolism.
 
I think they were right in going for symbolism on the show, but honestly both sides of the argument have a good case.

Sadly, this redesign does strip the shared marks of much of their symbolism. That said, these do look a lot more visually appealing to me.
 
I wonder how they’d look if the stripes on the shields from the show design were kept. That would hold the symbolism, but I’m not sure how good it would look.

Yeah, these are definitely better. Hindsight’s a pain in the butt sometimes.

But this isn’t about laziness, this is about design. :) The Mane Six’s cutie marks are visually appealing, for their simplicity. Same goes for these recolors. The simplified design is visually attractive while still conveying the idea of three fillies united by a special bond.

Bad design is bad design, regardless of some hamfisted attempt at symbolism. Nobody will care how symbolic it is if they’re too busy recoiling at the colors. This design keeps the shield/coat-of-arms motif while making sure the colors actually fit the color schemes of each pony.
