I really don’t get why people, including Hasbro, are saying it was 1983  
That’s been confusing me too, the first six Ponies came out in ’82.

As I understand it, prototypes were created in 1982 (As “My Pretty Pony”), but the toys weren’t actually on store shelves until 1983. That’s probably why Hasbro counts ’83 as the year it started.

My Pretty Pony was ’81, they dropped the Original Six in ’82. The line took off in ’83 with 16 Earth Ponies, Unicorns, and Pegasi, 6 Rainbow Ponies, 3 Sea Ponies, and several playsets (one of which included Spike), but those were all Year 2.

Perhaps they count ‘83 as the anniversary year because that’s when it really took off and became popular?

It’d be like saying that Gen 4 started in 2011 because that’s when it “took off”.

Actually, IIRC, some of the 35th anniversary toys got released last year too. So who knows what Hasbro is thinking with this stuff.

I think I may do this, maybe I will, maybe I won’t.

Let’s see… just only one-off cus’ I rarely draw stuff in all my life. But guarantee, it may be good cus’ I once made a cool near-accurate band logo before. :)

I was wondering if there’d be some kind of event. Thank goodness the deadline’s two weeks from now, I might actually get something done. This is so big I can’t let it pass.

I was inquiring about this event about a week ago on the 7th mlp anniversary thread, as I thought this would be announced before the 10th of October.
 
Yet seeing as how we have a good chunk of time to draw our art and earn our badges, this is a surprise, but a welcome one at that.
