A.N: I know I’m seriously late for this, but still I find this decision of Hasbro’s to be rather ironic, don’t you think?

Not necessarily. Sure, their legal department would be heavily against unlicensed fan merchandise sites. But I imagine they’d be quite in favour of one that’s licensed and controlled by Hasbro itself….

Just a thought.

To anyone who’s confused by the description, the reason why I found this decision to be ironic is because Hasbro has had a history of shutting down fan-made sites and projects (Like that Superfanart site that cheezedoodle brought up.), and this amuses me because Hasbro was doing something that their Legal Department is strictly against.

@Zebasiz
It doesn’t actually stand for anything, but if you watch the old G1 episodes, (from the classic G1 series, not Tales), the end credits on every one of them has a copyright notice stating that MLP is the legal property of HASRRO.

This is because all the original end credits got cut off the episodes in the late 80s and early 90s when they were airing and then repeating the episodes as part of “My Little Pony ’n Friends” hour, and the replacement credits that they threw together and stuck on the end of all the episodes, was poorly made. So it says HASRRO instead of HASBRO.

I’m curious, what does “HASRRO” stand for?

And I’m with others on this. Makes sense to me. They and the fans both gain in this: Hasbro gains some of the income from another site producing content the fans desire. And they can keep away products that they would feel are “improper” with their image. [Though those items would no doubt find other ways to be produced, it wouldn’t be directly compared to these other products.] And the fans have a stable central site to go to for content, as well as the assurance that Hasbro wouldn’t be blocking them for their sales, since Hasbro is the one they’re selling through.

And for me: I have a better chance of finding awesome Fan-made items that I can purchase! =D

So they shut down the site selling unlicensed fan-made pony stuff, and then opened and licensed their own site selling fan-made pony stuff?

Well that makes perfect sense actually OP, and it’s not ironic at all. The new site is licensed and sanctioned by Hasbro*, so they get a cut of the profits as befits the copyright holders, and they get a say in the sort of fan-made items that are being officially made and sold now.

(Or as I still prefer to call them, HASRRO :P)
edvd

Well, let’s see: Fans making cool stuff unofficially and existing in a legal gray area vs. fans making cool stuff officially and without being shut down.

I dunno, Two doesn’t sound so bad.
