“Ah, salutations Sir Godzilla. I see that you seem to be back on your hooves.”
“More or less.”
There was a brief, awkward silence. Luna was wondering what he had to say. Junior was, for reasons beyond himself, having a hard time spitting it out. His tongue felt twisted up at random.
“Is, there something you need discussed? How is your recovery now that you are up and moving?”
Finally he managed to snap out of any momentary trance or mental fumble he’d stumbled into.
“Yes actually. I am more or less fully recovered and will be going back to my quarters. Your chamber is your’s once again. I wanted to thank you for your assistance, with everything.”
“Well, we are most gratefu-”
She was cut off by him pulling something out from the wall and holding it out with a hoof. A whole rose bush. She should have been asking why he was carrying around an entire shrub or why he was giving it to her. Unfortunately she couldn’t pry her eyes off the batteries of red flowers. Her wings flared out and stuck straight up.
“W-ell… this was unexpected…. But, thank….y-ou….?”
“Was for the accommodations and nightly visits. Was quite kind of you.”
She levitated the bush over to her, her face growing a bit hotter by the second. Junior only looked at the changes with a perplexed glance.
Never saw her face flare up that much, is she sick?
“You are m-ost welcome Godzilla.”
“You can refer to me as Junior if you wish… By the way, are you feeling alright? Your face is turning red as a cherry.”
Luna flinched, raising up the shrub like she was getting a closer look. In truth she was hiding her face behind it.
“Feeling fine!…. Thank.. you Junior, the flowers are lovely…”
Junior turned and started down the hall, his work done. True, Luna did react a bit odd, but he’d guess that was just normal for these ponies and opted not to prod.
“Hope they taste good. I’ll leave you to your business then Princess.”
He walked down the hall and turned the corner to move out of sight. Princess Luna mentally kicked herself in the flank to get her mind working again. She lowered her wings back down and looked down at the roses with a tilted head.
What in the world did he mean ‘taste’? Does he even know what these are for?
Luna sighed, inspecting each of the flowers. A lot of things had changed since that dolt crashed through the castle roof. Back then she only saw the thorns on him. Over the past few days though, it was nice to see he wasn’t all burning fires and sharpened fangs. It was good to see he had some flowers to him besides the thorns. She nuzzled one of the soft petals, a small smile creeping onto her lips regardless of the odd situation. Wasn’t every decade she got something like this from a kindly stallion.
There was a soft chuckle not belonging to herself.
“Am I interrupting something Lulu?~”
Luna’s eyes snapped back open and her mind back to reality. Swinging her head up, she saw the smirking face of Celestia standing in her doorway looking right at her. And her present. Luna the red faced alicorn made her grand return to the world, tossing the flowers behind the door.
“Sister!”

Sorry for belated response. Anywho according to the PR info the Anteverse kaiju creators or the ‘Precursors’ are big, but only about 12-20 feet tall; which is within the range of large natural species.
Usually kaiju have a none biological metabolism and typical make up. Basically put, they don’t work like normal animals and aren’t built as such. This is because to hold up their size and weight, they’d need to be built of stuff tougher and denser than your typical carbon-calcium make up normal animals have and are composed of heavier materials. This is how Godzilla can walk through a barrage of solid metal missiles and barely get scratched; whereas even the toughest natural animal hide would get ripped to shreds. And fueling this weird biology is typically a high energy source, ranging from everything from fire, to radiation, to mana; etc. This is also why larger kaiju typically don’t eat organic food. As we saw in the movies, Junior here ate plants and then flesh as a baby to teenager; but phased out of it to a pure energy diet in his late teens to adult years.
In a nutshell, most fully fledged kaiju act less like giant animals and more like living reactors.
Well, actually, the Anteverse Kaiju are explicitly said to run on some sort of Hive Mind, connected back to their masters. So, yeah, they’re not very bright themselves- they’re essentially giant attack dogs, as noted- but they have intelligence behind them, driving their actions.
They’re Organic Mecha, basically.
Interesting… Do the Anteverse Kaiju creators count as Kaiju? Some of the visuals in Pacific Rim imply they are as big as a small Kaiju.
Or is there some other factor other than size needed to be counted as Kaiju, like some sort of Kaiju gene/chromosome?
Doesn’t mean all are ‘dumb’ per say, just only on about the same level as a normal animal of some type. Some are sub-sapient, like the gyaos (Irys withstanding), and between the levels of a chimpanzee and clever canine. The Symbiotic/soldier Legion (yes not technically kaiju, but associated with one) are only about as smart as most insects.
It’s not that all are smart or all are dumb, they just have a variance found in nature. As a general rule of thumb, power scales with smarts. So if the kaiju is decently powerful, it’s probably sentient.
A weird example would be the Anteverse Kaiju. They are quite powerful, but don’t behave fully like self aware creatures; rather more like biological machines. Makes sense given they are basically giant attack dogs. They are smart enough to figure things out and plan, but maybe not have the same level of complex thinking or interaction as some of the Terran kaiju.
Oh, so not all kaiju are sapient in your universe? I mean, I know some were dumb, but I assumed that even the normal Gyaos had Chimpanzee level intellect.

Yes, the ones that are fully sentient are capable of treating others like themselves the same way you or I would treat another human.
Let me be a bit more clear. I certainly realize that not all kaiju are the same species as all human races are the same species. But the text does seem to treat all kaiju as subspecies of one kaiju species group.

I certainly could see the argument for that. I treat it more like they are highly abnormal animals of various different species. For example, both Godzilla and Anguirus are heavily altered dinosaurs; but one is a theropod (likely a Megalosaurid given the four digits) and one is a ankylosaurid. So I suppose it’s a bit less they are the same species and more some of them are smart enough to behave similarly.
I know that this is a month old, but I just thought of something. Aren’t all Kaiju (Earth Kaiju that is) kinda the same species in a way? They sure seem to act like they are.

Just to clarify he’s not wholly naive. He knows what reproduction is and the general basics of a monogamous relationship (he has a concept of what a family is for instance). He just has no interest in sex and is clueless about how the romantic process works (hence the misunderstanding of the flowers)

Mix of both. He never encountered a female he was interested in (and of his species), so his overall interest in the learning of and pursuit of sexual or romantic endeavors just never happened

Author of the story here. That actually is the joke. Junior has a very limited concept of and has no interest in romance. So gestures like giving flowers make no sense to him. Knowing ponies are herbivores, he concludes giving flowers is like giving a friend a snack as a thank you; leading to this scene.
