Hey, I see your point, but I’m curious. Could it be that No one shunned Rarity and Spike, but they shunned themselves? Like they personally thought that they were to much of a danger to live in society so they lived in exile of their own free will? Reading the beginning of this comic that seems to be what happened.
…
Cool!
DIG, DUG!
My name is Dug. I have just met you, and I love you.
!img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090602035123/pixar/images/3/35/Dug-up.jpg!
Would you like to be my friend?
Through my highly aggressive family and some prior issues with others on the internet, I’ve learned to keep a level head and avoid jumping to conclusions. It’s mostly that last line of your first post that told me not to treat you roughly. It’s just an opinion after all.
If I may give some constructive criticism on the author…:
What has been established by stuff approved by DHX is that
1)Spike is one of the only domesticated dragons. They are raised to be aggresive and under migration until they are adults, where it seems they either continue to migrate with a family of their own, or find a cave where they can horde treasure. Without Spike’s help, a small but potentially extremely powerful dragon, they would not be able to establish a communication with ponies. Dragons in general do not respect anything lesser beings.
2) Diamond dogs do have a sense of culture and morality compared to wild Diamond dogs, but the problem is they are still genetically too dumb and too amoral to live among pony society of laws and rights. They live for their gems. For Tolkein references, think far worse then Dwarves, but better then Goblins. Integration might be possible, but not without its daily troubles.
3) Griffons and Zebra’s in general do not have excellent cultural relations with Equestria, if the info is correct on that from the rushed Journal Book. Celestia keeps a territorial peace between the two. That’s why they are so few in Equestria. (Honestly I always assumed the Zebra’s land was just really far away from central Equestria) Twilight was never much of a diplomat for less then peaceful situations, that was more RD’s area of expertise.
Considering Twilight is the least wise and worldly of the 6, it is highly unlikely that she was able to pull this off after her friends “deaths” and exile, since this is established to be completely new to Rarity. Then again, this timeline was written right after Twilight’s Kingdom, before Rainbow Rocks when Twilight realized with Sunset’s help that both how she became a princess and the title of Princess of Friendship didn’t mean anything. She realized that she is only strong with her friends as a whole, and that refusing to rely on her friends is betraying their trust and their safety.
While I love the creativity, one thing I’ve noticed is that this writer has kept Twilight pretty broken, which is why this page in particular is giving a rather sour note. She comes out of the blue after decades and tells them they can reconnect with society which they couldn’t before until know, Nightmare or not? For an element of Harmony and town hero? For a town that tolerated Discord? Pull the other one.
The craziest thing about ‘crazy future’ is that they took the concept of Twilight’s ‘Kingdom’ seriously. I know the writer needed a reason to make it so Nightmare Rarity never saw her aged little sister(that creates way too much immortality drama then just talking about friends that have passed), and a reason to be introduced to the new potential elements of harmony, but they gave no solid reasoning of why she is only allowed back now. Princess Twilight Sparkle swears that they are allowed now, but what does that even mean? Was Nightmare Rarity’s existence a big issue or not? Seeing as how Super Surprise fixed what little curse Rarity’s body still has on the moon in a heartbeat, and Spike would of mentioned if Rarity was prone to more serious demonic outbursts since her resurrection, it doesn’t seem to be very well justified. I’m still giving it the benefit of the doubt since its just started, but my point still stands about Rarity presenting a danger to anyone.
More that “segregation” I think “Conservative”. Ponies are Order’s creature, so anything that could disturbed the “status quo” is unpopular.
They don’t love the unknown or the change. So everypony was afraid of Zecora, or hated Discord.
@thps48
Checked DA, and the statue’s for NMM. Same continuity as that other vava-comic where she gets a tangible form independent of Luna.
@PonyPon
Yeah, dunno if I’d take the word of three provincial schoolfillies as a spot-on assessment of their nation’s integration progress. Closest thing to a type-exclusive region’s likely Cloudsdale, simply ’cause few non-peggies care to muck around with walking on air vapor.
And since pone/griffon relations are at least hinted to be amiable ’tween Gilda & Gustave, why not open the door for D-dogs & manageable-sized dragons? Especially with so much crazy local talent to shut down aggressive types?
Momentarily off my desktop, so not logged in. But yes, this illustrated for me why the concept of twi as a “princess” never worked nor can. So it was pertinent to say. Though I quite like the artist and this comic. Truly unfortunate he finds my opinion thus so horrible he HATES me for it.
Thanks. Really. I only faved everything you post that I saw, vuvu. Makes me warm and fuzzy. Anyway, that is my peace. I am only sad such hate is made only by a dislike of literary device and trope incompatibility. In spite of vocally loving the comic itself. At least I thank you for being reasonable.
Probably… X3
My guess is enough speeches and treaties to fill a world history book.
Strange, other towns don’t seem so segregated.
And I wonder how she managed that.
It actually follows logically from show canon. In “Flight to the Finish”, the CMCs pointed out that what made Ponyville special was that Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies all lived there together. (That, btw, implied that racial segregation was still the norm in Equestria.)
Princess Twilight apparently took it upon herself to extend that tolerance beyond just toward different races of ponies to all intelligent species in Equestria.
Looking back at the picture, you might be onto something.
My first thought was that the griffon just won’t take “No” for an answer.
I found Equestria a little “xenophobic”, the idea of a kingdom with a lot of species it’s very neat and fun.
You will know the reason…in soon.
Just because a place turns out to be the most tolerant living settlement doesn’t mean there aren’t any small traces of opposition…
A pity the other elements aren’t around to see it…
