Hello all. I’m the artist of this picture, Mono Phos. I’m pleased with the amount of reaction this drawing of mine has generated especially the positive ones. There are a number of those that aren’t too pleased with a few of my character choices for mash ups.
 
First, Twilight playing Lucina and not as Robin. I chose Lucina because looks-wise she looks like a character that Twilight can dress as. Also, I wanted to draw Lucina for this drawing because she does look interesting. Why I didn’t choose Robin is because by default Robin is a dude. I started off by picking the characters from a screenshot of the select screen and looking at the girls that I can see in that photo. Robin is a male character by default from what I can see from the select screen. So I didn’t take Robin in consideration because of the default. Just only with the characters that I know are females to begin with.
 
I have a rule for this picture. That rule is that there has to be a Pony that HAS to represent Samus Aran, Zelda, and Princess Peach. Pinkie as Peach might not work well with her alone but that’s why I added Spike as Toad. Many wanted Spike to be Little Mac,Yoshi, Mario, or I had to choose to make Spike look good I would choose Toon Link… but I gotta add a bit of humor to the mix. So as always Spike will get the short end of the stick and thus being stuffed underneath Pinkie’s skirt. Pinkie and Spike being Peach and Toad, in my eyes, made the Peach/Pie connection work.
 
Next is why I chose Sunset Shimmer as Lady Palutena. After watching the Rainbow Rocks movie, I began liking Sunset and I wanted to include in this group picture. I also have the hots for Lady Palutena. I also chose this mash-up due to the hair style like I did with Twilight/Lucina. I did hear stuff like Palutena should have been Sunbu… I mean Princess Celestia. I just didn’t want to I just wanted to do a drawing of the Mane 6 plus Sunset Shimmer and Spike. The other choices I did for this drawing were pretty spot on from what I’ve been told.
 
As for the race and skin color for the characters some of you guys want diversity. The explanations about the regions and origins that done by CronoM and A-T-S were pretty spot on. Couldn’t have done it better myself. Oh yeah, usually in my drawings Rainbow Dash would be tanned but since she is portraying Wii Fit Trainer, her tanned skin couldn’t be seen.

Also I might add that some people tend to avoid female Robin altogether when also drawing Lucina for Smash because in the actual Fire Emblem game || you can have weird possibility to become Lucina’s mother-in-law by marrying her father||

When you say “Sunset as Lucina” & “Celestia/Lucina” do you perhaps mean Palutena rather than Lucina?

Plus, you know, her brother was the captain of the guards, so in alternate universe/headcanon, she could have been trained by him; hmm…possible Shining/Marth + Twilight/lucina pic?

This was a tribute to exclusively female characters and the mane 8.
 
If this were a fire emblem crossover, I’d probably be on your side. In Smash however, female Robin is just a sidenote. The male counterpart gets most of the trailer, so unless the artist over-represented Robin with Spike as Male Robin as @Background Pony #7F45 suggested, which I’d still be okay with, it wouldn’t really leave much of an impact. (Also, it doesn’t help your argument that a few of your comparisons are a little aggrandizing.)
 
One could give a different list of reasons of why Twilight should be Lucina instead, from the dark hair to technical royalty to not caring who if the japananese voice actress is the same to emulating a hero of the past(Marth/Star-Swirled), and so on. So this is a basic case of ‘your mileage may very’ in perspective.
 
Either way, I think its a great picture. I especially love Sunset as Lucina cause with all the Celestia/Lucina comparisons, it shows a great comparison of Sunset being Celestia’s first heir to her role AND her cutie mark especially now that she’s on the right path and Twilight’s not the exclusive main character after Rainbow Rocks.

Hey, sometimes characters don’t match up as well as you’d like. For example, in the ever-popular Team Fortress 2 crossovers, I have Twilight as the Medic. They have a surprising number of similarities, but most people don’t seem to notice.
