Better Yet since she also had Principal Celestia and Vice-Principal Luna under her control she could have used her new powers to imprison the real Princess’ and have these two take there place as her puppet rulers.

Well technically they’d become ponies (or demon-bat-ponies through Sunset’s magic) if they crossed through the mirror; and a benevolent ruler like Celestia wouldn’t exactly be willing to attack an army of innocent civilians…to her plan wasn’t as half-baked as many think. But it was still half-baked. XD

She would have had the Element of surprise it seems. It didn’t look like Celestia had any defenses set up in case Anything but Twiligth and Spike came out of the portal.Sunset hadn’t even really began her plan yet she just wanted the students under her control to keep them in reach and had she been able to easily Kill Twiligth and co as she planed it’s entirely possible she would have used her magic as Millennial Dan stated and this comic>>399626 implies to upgrade them and turn them into a formidable force. After all it is the foolish strategist who simply glances at the contents of an army and concludes them “dumb” without considering their tactics,potential and as well their own vulnerabilities.

Pretty much. And besides, we’ve always used “teenagers” as soldiers, why should this be any different? Add a magically induced transformation and personality implants, and you actually have a decent force.

I always felt her plan was to bring them to Equestria just to hold off the guards for a mere moment while she hypnotizes everyone else (Including the Princesses). It really would have been a piece of cake for her had Twilight and the gang not interfered. Of course, I am, because Sunset is wonderful as an antihero/protagonist.

She clearly realized that without that Deus Ex Machina at the end, it would have actually been that easy to conquer Equestria. The teenagers are more or less meat shields until she takes down Celestia and Luna in another Beam O War, then the rest of the house of cards will fall like dominos. Checkmate.
