I still come back to this thread after two years, because I still see more sense in some people commenting this thread than many of other members in this fandom.

Had this discuss not been under a picture bashing my favorite pony uploaded by a mindless hater, and not been stained by quacks and barks appearing occasionally in the comments, this could very well be my source of hope that there is possibility to have a rational fandom.

No, it did not.

Celestia didn’t stop visiting Sombra because she realized that it was a bad idea, she did because she was FORCED to. She didn’t cross the mirror world again a thousand years later to fix her mistakes, she did so to see him again. She didn’t even have any input whatsoever in solving the issue. Not once we are given any indication that Celestia in any way grew from when she first dated him, nor that this experience made her mature. Yes, she was willing to sacrifice herself to stop Evilestia, and that was good, but I already assumed that Celestia would have done something like that anyways so it doesn’t really count as development.

You don’t develop a character by adding a thousand fucking fuckups and flaws without proper contextualizing them, and then go around saying “Boy howdy Celestia, I sure am happy you fuck up every once in a while too!” (Which, by the way, go to hell Cook. Even if she was competently written, YOU DO NOT DO THIS, YOU DO NOT PARADE CELESTIA’S NEWFOUND FLAWS LIKE IT’S A FUCKING PRIZE. You didn’t do it with Sunset Shimmer, so you don’t do it with Celestia). Maybe if they spent less time on a stupid motherfucking swishy romance and more on contextualizing Celestia’s character, why she did what she did, and how she dealt with it, maybe this arc wouldn’t have sucked a thousand bags of soggy dicks.

yeah cause ultimately, and quite clearly indicate,d giving up on what made her happy back then and focusing on her own world for a millneium is SO not developing as a character.
with some of her beahvior here……… she was willing to have herself scarficed and focused on encouraging Twilight rather than giving a goodbye to sombra.
her crying voer it a bit is simply an old wound being opened up after such a long time. when she cried when she realized they would never see each other again, it was simply the sadness of it forever being over. Hell it is kinda clear that she did not go in there for a visit, considering that the entirety of Sombra’s equestria was in turmoil and alternate luna knew about celsetia’s world.

Honestly, I’m not sure what the big deal is. Celestia made some mistakes (this really can’t be denied), but considering some of the circumstances at the time - having just banished her sister to the moon and becoming the sole ruler of Equestria - I don’t know if I can blame her for not thinking clearly. The mirror world was an escape for her; she had her sister back, she had somepony she was developing feelings for, and she didn’t have to worry about the fate of an entire country resting on her shoulders. It shows that she was obviously feeling incredibly guilty about having to banish her sister, and she tried to cope with it as best she could. Haven’t we all been told at some point that doing something might be bad for us and kept doing it anyway because we didn’t want to listen? This was her moment, and Star Swirl stepped in before it got worse.

I can even, to some extent, follow a bit of her logic with going through the mirror again when she did; it had been a thousand years, and the thought that the rift had been repaired enough wouldn’t be out of the question. Even if it was just a “one last visit to apologize for vanishing” thing, she couldn’t have known the damage was still lingering about, and once Sombra told her that he needed help with the mirror Tia and Luna, she acted to help a friend. Did she still have feelings for him? Duh. I just don’t think she was solely thinking with her hindquarters with this.

I can’t remember… did they ever explain how she knew the seal on the mirror was gone? I thought it was clarified that Sombra had contacted her, but I’m not positive about that.
