It’s only quite recent I’ve been seeing Chinese restaurants serving food in those oyster pails. Before then, it was all in Styrofoam trays. Oyster pails were more of an American thing.
If you have digestive problems, sweet and sour stuff which are acidic might not be the best for you. Either that, or whoever cooked those foods didn’t prepare them properly. Or you might just have simply ate too much. Trust me, it happens to me a lot whenever I eat Western Chinese foods, I get carried away and consume more than I was supposed to.
Sweet and sour chicken bits, chips/fries (I’m British so I call fries chips) and the special fried rice with bits of meat and prawn in it. Also, banana fritters.
What exactly did you eat?
I just ate it and I now have a tummy ache.

Perhaps those paper boxes are more common in the US.

Probably half of the Chinese restaurants where I’ve gotten takeout have served it in boxes like that, instead of styrofoam containers.
Neither have I. And Chinese restaurants outnumber mainstream fast food establishments in my city.
I’ve only ever seen restaurants sell takeouts in Styrofoam trays. Granted, these boxes may have been widespread before the advent of Styrofoam.

… I know, it’s really bad for the environment.
the place near where I live always gives us the rice on the side in those boxes. The rest of the food comes in its own plastic tupperware containers.
