When I looked to him for the first, I immediately thought to the babylonian culture, but also to Ashurbanipal of Assyria XD, from the addon of Civilization V. So, bah…

If you’ve got a couple bucks to spare I highly recommend the Hardcore History episode about Assyria. The best introduction I’ve ever heard for these prototype Nazis.

In a similar vein his Wrath of the Khans series tells the exploits of the Mongol Horde. Essentially the Dothraki from Game of Thrones but much much much much more bad ass and ruthless and came to be the only nation to ever conquer China. Seriously, that series of podcasts has ruined fiction for me because what fictional character can ever top.
“(Announcement to a Muslim city he had just put under siege) I am the flail of god. Had you not created great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.”

That’s some serious Dark Eldar shit right there!
Oh yes, their palaces were decorated with engravings of their favourite torture methods. Including killing a young man and forcing his mother to carry his severed head as a necklace as she died from exposure shackled to a wall in public.
My favourite though was straight from Lovecraft, they created a tower of living flesh in the center of a recently conquered city. Essentially a hollow stone tower piled high with captured rebels that was then sealed and the people left to suffocate/starve. The reason they were so cruel was they had only a small army to defend a vast empire. So they used terror as a means of control. If workers in a captured city went on strike the city rulers knew that if the Asyrians arrived those workers would be tortured and killed. Then the families of the workers would be tortured and killed. Then the employers of the workers would be tortured and killed. Then the rulers of the city would be tortured and killed. Then 20,000 more people would be tortured and killed. So you know it’s in everyone’s best interest not to get too uppity and just stay in line.
It seemed to work well, they lasted 2000 years and only fell when the royal family started fighting amongst themselves.
I heard they had monuments that fucking bragged about the atrocities they’ve committed!
That’d be the region I was referring to.
BTW I like his cloths. I think they’ll inspires my Oc’s sandlandic nation’s outfit (or some of)
Assuming that Maretonia is analogous to the Roman province of Mauretania (northern Morocco), there’s still a place for the duke in Civ 5.
About that area, ya.
Ah, Berber/Morocco?
Ah ? Well, never saw this name in the tags before. So I suppose it happened in the comments then be decided later. But I never heard those comments ^^
‘Finally’? It was there since the first sighting of him.
Although, weirdly, the name was not that surprising,
@Rod Hungwell
