Just admit you want for shipping fuel dude, Lyra and Bonbon would be much better and not between a student and a figure that’s like an aunt to them
You-you realize Celestia was present during her developing years YES? Would that not be technically wifehusbandry and very uncomfortable to think about a mother figure getting in a relationship with someone she watched over while she was still a CHILD.
Ok, I guess I misunderstood the way you said it, lol.
BUt yeah the MLP animators are good.
i think it was the animators. either that or the compliment i made.
Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. :)
Er, or do you mean the job the animators themselves have done? :P
Well, look at it this way.
If we at least saw an admittance of powerful platonic love between Twilight and Celestia, it would be no more than Twilight declaring in “Maud Pie” that they all share in common a strong love for Pinkie Pie. While it may be a little risque in the minds of the creators, it’s really nothing that qualifies as inappropriate for a kids’ show. Besides, I can say that, anecdotally, women do sometimes tell their closest friends that they “love them” and it’s not weird at all.
As for the debate about how the dynamic of a Twilestia situation would play out, I’m not solidly on either side. I’d say that anybody can “love” anybody, even considering that social nuances would declare certain relationships to be “bad ideas”. It makes sense to consider power imbalance due to two of four or so co-rulers having a relationship. Given the context of the show thus far, however, it seems to much of an unneeded concern. At least, to me. I’m open to hearing what has to be said about that.
I never said they couldn’t, I’m just saying that would be an issue for Twilight and Celestia.
I don’t know, maybe it could work with somebody else.
Well, see, that’s the thing. Celestia would not be the kind of person who even notice she has that kind of power or that it’s a problem before it becomes it causes calamity.
Every inane little question or suggestion, to Twi, would be as powerful as a Would you kindly?
And I don’t see what’s wrong with thinking Ponies can screw up to the same capacity humans can. Perhaps even worse, with their capabilities.
The writers of this show have surprised us before. We’ll have to see if they can do something that amazing.
Like how in places it’s illegal for a teacher to have a relationship with their student? (even of similar age in college) Yeah, because Celestia sure seems like the type to take advantage of having influence in a relationship…
Projecting crappy human tendencies and issues on ponies, definitely something I could see people doing. Just as ridiculous regardless.
I’m sure there’s a term for it, but I just don’t feel comfortable with Twi getting into a relationship with someone she’s so zealous towards, and therefore has the most power over her as a result. Even more than herself.
Like what?
It shouldn’t be, and damn it would make me happy if Hasbro tried to be a little progressive (rather than conforming to the wishes of bigots) and had an episode (as you suggested) supporting not judging people off of who they like.
It’d easily be the end of them, so how about on the season finale of their last planned season, make it about the magic of friendship and love and incorporate the really meaningful lessons, and leave the fandom shippers giddy with joy. Go out with a bang I say ^^
I would think there would a host of other issues with it beyond gayness or age, before someone brings that up.
I hope it happens in our lifetimes.
That is also a problem that some people need to get over. Too many people see homosexuality as JUST sexuality that they cannot separate that from the person, and it really says more about the complainers than the gay people themselves.
Another thing, you don’t have to be gay in order to be pro-gay rights. People who use that strawman are truly idiotic.
Yes, Twilesta would be cool, and while I could see why it’d weird some people out (the presumably young Princess Twilight with a much older Celestia) is it really any more offbeat than, I dunno foot fetishes?
Canonical gay couples in MLP or not, it shouldn’t be an issue to bring that into the world of Equestria.
Just hopefully social reform on this won’t take generations.
One thing that bothers me though is when people are soo hypocritical or lying about how they feel. So often you can hear people “being progressive” and how fine they are with gays but then have a problem with it if it were there kid or if their kids were exposed to it. If you think that your kid seeing the reality that there are people who like their own gender on TV will make your kid gay, then you’re anti-gay. If you had no problems with gays, then it wouldn’t matter one way or another whether seeing gays turned your kid gay (which it wouldn’t, that’s just absurd).
I just want to see a gay/lesbian couple in mlp just so I can say, “That’s adorable (especially if Twilestia), f*** off soccer moms, if something that sweet and cute is wrong I don’t wanna be right” xD
Right, and the truth is that gay or lesbian relationships are only “questionable” on kids shows because of some arbitrary worry that the young kids will see the sexual side of it and be influenced, which is totally bull. In reality, a gay cartoon character would be just as normal as a straight character, like how gay people in real life are just as human (there’s no “flaw” to their nature). Of course, since there aren’t too many notable ones, it’s treated as strange by any when it even SEEMS like a two characters are in a homosexual relationship. If it was commonplace, it would be normal as straight couples, but because only now people are seeing how stupid anti-gay sentiment was over history, it’s something that people would need time to adjust to. And really, we’re not even asking for that- it’d be cool, to be honest, if say Lyra and Bon Bon really were canonically gay. It’d be a wonderful setup for a lesson on the show to accept others for who they love (though again, it’s ripe for another Derpygate reaction and Hasbro might have to cave to the idiots’ complaints). All in all, people are starting to recognize that this is a black and white issue- it’s not debatable; if you are anti-gay, you’re an asshole. Unfortunately, the US still has to overcome that hurdle in our culture.
Yeah, well it is the irrational ones that make the big fuss now isn’t it? Frankly, “gay agenda” or not, if you watch the show you’d realize the male to female and realistically conclude that things would end up being a little non-traditional. (take for example (supposedly true) at all female colleges, there is a lot of chicks hooking up, because everybody needs some loving right?)
But it doesn’t seem like there’s any rational reason for a parent to be trying to “protect” kids from that kind of language, you know? There’s no “gay agenda” or anything made up like that in this show. Is that the kind of parents you’re talking about, or…?
I have a feeling I’d be the same.
No level headed person would have a problem with it, even if they thought it were more than platonic. It’s really not the audience that would be upset, but the “protective” parents of the main audience. xD
I would totally see it as non-platonic, no matter how it was presented. Not as in canonically, mind you, just in my own headcanon. I like this ship too much.
