Well, that’s where it all plays in. She writes so well, paces everything (arguably), and makes sure things become clear when they need to. The references are refreshment and connection with the audience, one she loves in her own way.
Throwing some references here and there does not compare to good writing, good pacing and good character developing, dudopio-lopio.
