So, I upload the new version first and then click “report a duplicate” on this one? Does it automatically replace it?
You can upload the new version, then click on “Report a duplicate” on this picture and insert the ID of the new version.
(\ Agreed! One more thing, now that I’m updating all my art on dA without black boxes, can I do the same here on Derpibooru? Or once it’s uploaded here, it can’t be changed?
No worries, amidst all this technology we pencil artists need to stick together :)

Never Mind! I figured it out! Thank you so much for suggesting a better cropping technique!
Alright, I found the MS paint and I’ve been trying to get rid of the black boxes, but every time I get rid of them, new white boxes appear. Am I doing something wrong?
Actually, my version of windows 7 had a trial version of Photoshop pre-installed. It has a few high end features removed (I can’t make animated gifs for example) but it’s still got more gismos than paint.
Windows 7 has paint pre-installed
start menu > all programs > accessories > paint
Forget Paint, install something more decent like Paint.NET
Or if you just want to crop a picture, even IrfanView can be good (and it’s a damn lightweight image viewer for a ton of formats).
It has windows 7. I just looked through it and it doesn’t seem to have it. Or is it part of windows 7?
Does your laptop have a windows OS?
if it does, then it does have paint. it’s included in every windows OS since I’ve been using computers.
If you have a different OS, then there is certainly a basic image editor that you can get.
Thank you for the instructions and advice, but unfortunately I don’t have MS paint on my laptop. Could it be installed?
You can crop in MS paint.
Open in MS paint
Select the selection tool (dotted box)
CTRL+a (select all)
press up arrow until the top black box is removed.
click off the picture to deselect
then click and drag the small box on the bottom edge of the picture up so that the bottom black box is removed
save file
relax in the satisfaction of a job well done.
Pretty much every image editing software functions similarly.
Thanks!
The Black Bars are there to cover the areas that not part of the picture. I don’t know how to crop my pictures since my camera only takes photos in one format and I don’t think I can crop with the kind of editor system I have. So the only thing I can do is put black bars on the top and bottom to at least make it look more professional and not just a picture of a sketch book.
Thank you!
Nice work /)
