And this is exactly why it’s acceptable in a kinds cartoon, I think. The darker tone will fly over the target audience’s heads because they can’t yet imagine how depressing having your career ruined can be.
Heeeey Doughnut steel! :P
Actually, I don’t care if anyone steals it.
steals your fanfic idea and writes it myselfI wouldn’t mind an AU one, where Sweetie didn’t get helped by Luna, and instead see Sweetie’s li’l “unfounded revenge” scheme come to fruition, but then gradually feel guilt for what she did, as she sees Rarity slowly delve further into total depression/madness.
Yes, it’d be rather dark/sad, (with maybe some funny parts) but would be interesting.
I’m tempted to make that actually. :P Though, I’m not much of a writer.
I wonder if there are any fanfics that touch on this subject.
I agree, this scene creeped me out, it is in my opinion the darkest MLP scene. But I can only appreciate it fully as an adult, because I know what depression is and I know how bad a mental breakdown is.
All I’m trying to say is that the show definitely did something unconventional with this episode, even by their own standards.
Look, you don’t need to justify WHY you lie the show, if you like it, you like it, that’s that. No need to be all “But it’s not like a little girls show” or whatever.
That’s the impression I’m getting. I’ve seem ‘scarier’ stuff as a kid and I did’t give a damn.
It was definitely a step up for the show in terms of presenting a darker theme.
Its never been a stereotype of a girls show. Just don’t pretend that a slightly dark theme for a short while will scar kids for life.
Ok, is it still possible to attribute it to the STEREOTYPE of a “little girls’ show?”
I think little girls will get a thrill out of a scary scene just as much as a little boy. Though society has for a long time retained the perception that little girls want everything to be cuddly and smiling.
@Dirty Bit
Ok, let me rephrase that: is it still possible to call this a “little girls’ show?”
@EHAN
And look at Courage the Cowardly Dog
Yep, it’s still possible to call this a kids’ show. Several classic children’s movies have scenes that are as disturbing as this or moreso, yet they’re still considered OK for young children.
Yep
WHAT DO YOU MEAN “YEP?”
Yep.
This.
Is it even POSSIBLE to call this a kids’ show anymore?
I wished for that to happen myself. The scene seemed a bit empty without the concept XD
And then Sweetie pulled that thread out of the headdress.
