Damned right. He was a good villain, but he makes for a way better sort-of-but-not-really-bad-guy. He’s just more interesting that way.

And I still think EG was kinda lame and unnecessary.
To me, Discord has never been evil.
He did everything for his own amusement.
And still does, kinda.
But we haven’t seen him doing something good yet. Wasn’t that the point of his reform?

The problem with Discord as a villain, and honestly with any all powerful character being a villain, is that you have to make them completely incompetent in order for the good guys to win. Discord had to be reformed in order to keep him interesting, just like Q had to become less evil and more like a trickster with a point to make before he became interesting.
Do you mean the princess thing? There is still Princess Cadance, so if Luna and Celestia stayed as the only princesses, we wouldn’t have Cadance as well. Her appearance wasn’t given as much flak as Twilight’s when we compare their initial appearances as royalty.
And I do think Discord should have stayed a villain. He kinda still is, but tamed down. ¬¬
