I don’t read fanfiction in general. I find that pretty much 99.999% of fanfictions that people have rushed at me screaming “LOOKIT DIS! IS AWESUM!” failed to get the characters right, was melodramatic and purple prose as all hell, and just generally utilized ridiculous excuses to move the plot forward.
 
And a Spidey X Twilight fiction basically sounds exactly like @FamusJamus is describing it to be, which pretty much sounds like it fits right in with that 99.999% of horribad fanfics I avoid like the Black Plague.

Because it looks like a combination of fantasy fulfilment (“giving Peter a much better life”), Twilight x non-canon character shipping, a fangasm (“Spiderman as the best hero ever”) and being less than respectful to the MLP characters (“stolen and mastered Discord’s powers”, arguably “Twilight as a girlfriend”). Any of these factors usually produce pretty bad fanfictions, let alone a combination.
 
Perhaps Googl9 is the worst person in the world to give summaries (no offence). Perhaps it’s a great read deserving of its “[1368+] [73-] rating”:http://www.fimfiction.net/story/9347/spiders-and-magic-rise-of-spidermane and appeals well to newcomers.
 
But to people who read fanfics, it looks like a fulfilment fic with Spidey instead of a self-insert, and only a certain audience will enjoy it. Not to mention the sister story randomly ships him with a second Mane 6 member.

I’ve read the fic. It’s okay. Nothing great. Nothing horrible. Just okay.
 
The characters get weepy too easily and far too often in my opinion.
 
Now back to the art! Dat Twilight. She sure gets drawn hot in most of these. I’m okay with this.

I believe me, I am still wondering how Mordecai and Twilight became such a big thing from CartunesLover’s crossover or how Sonic and Rainbow Dash alone caused spin-offs of other Sonic characters being matched up from other MLP characters. But Spider-man x Twilight Sparkle or Dipper (Gravity Falls) with Twilight, Deadpool or Dan vs with Pinkie Pie, seems like okay fan art to me, IMO.

Fine, maybe my argument wasn’t the greatest. But you are essentially writing something off without having read it or even heard about it before. All I am doing is recommending something that I believe deserves recommendation because it is quality work in a sea of bad/forgettable fanfiction. The fact that it has spawned more than one piece of fan art that the author did not commission when so few fanfics do so MIGHT back up my claim just a little bit

Yeeeaaahhh, I’m sorry to inform you of this, but quantity and sizeability of a fanbase =/= quality of the work.
 
If that were the case, then I’m afraid that’d mean that Twilight was the advent of a new apex in literature, greater than any other. Or that Homestuck was the greatest internet sensation of all time.

You could claim you have no interest in the fic or it is not in your taste, but if something spawns this much fanart, it is anything but dumb. It is actually probably the best spiderman related anything I have seen/read in a long time, on par with many of the good comics of him and easily better than the movies

While I haven’t seen the newest Spider-man movie, I know the sequels to the ones that stared Tobey Maguire were not okay and ruined Spiderman for me.
 
I’m still kinda baffled how Spiderman x Twilight became a thing if it’s only real root was a dumb fanfic.

I am just glad the artwork has been decent, better than MordeTwi…

For all the people asking where this is coming from, there is a popular story on Fimfiction called Spiders and Magic where Spiderman is transported to Equestria and starts life anew since he cannot get back to the old one. It’s goal is to show why Spiderman as the best hero ever while giving Peter a much better life. One of the improvements to Peter’s life the author gives him is Twilight as a girlfriend, and the current arc has Peter and Twilight back in the Marvel Universe to defeat Harry Osborn, who has stolen and mastered Discord’s powers. It is a really good read, especially if you like Spiderman but hate the crap the comics do to him these days, and I would highly recommend it.
