@Solitair I’d say the problem was more that so many of those kinds of moments happened at once. I mean technically there were two big “I didn’t enjoy it as much after this” moments in the first (pip town massacre and Autumn Leaf) but most who cited those as terrible moments still finished. But the frequency and severity of those kinds of moments in PH made a lot of people quit (all villains must be tragic, kinda hard to symp with someone that feeds a whole mining town into its rock crusher) to having to kill her entire stable to Rampage constantly breaking herself and everyone around her to Blackjack turning into a pulsating fleshy eldritch horror and still managing to get raped that way, to pretty much all the reapers dying, it was just too damn much.

My heart broke when Blackjack realized that she was a rapist. I’ve never seen a story try that before, or at least not as well as this one did.

Mind you I stopped reading after the first volume, before people claim it jumped the shark…
The Hittite

For those wondering about the context of this picture, it’s from Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons. In the Stable this guy’s from, stallions are allowed to have exactly one job. That of a stud. And that stallion has exactly zero say in the matter, no matter his orientation.

Yo guyz.

What makes some people happy is doing something they love, even if they’re barely making the rent.

What makes some people happy is owning enormous quantities of money.

There is also a spectrum between the two. For instance, most people a crap line they would not cross for any amount of money, but there is a certain amount of not-perfect they will put up with for a paycheck.

Know yourself, decide what would make you happiest, and aim for that. (Hint: it helps to aim for both, and take the best approximation you can get on either scale.)

The problem with rushing into your dreams with out proper foundation is that you’re basically building a house on sand. People who jump at the first sight of their wants tend to not end up happy, they simply end up poor.

Proper planning and weighing the positives Vs the negatives is the key to success. Life isn’t a fairy tale where is you wish upon a star all your dreams will come true, sometimes you have to weigh the options and see what will suit you best. Sometimes the long-term payoff might even be better, and gives you the tools to do so much more.

That’s cool and all, if it’s your dream, but what if someone’s dream really is just to learn about and work with animals and really wants to be a zoologist? What if someone just really wants to be a teacher?

If you countenance some burden to achieve some higher goal that’s one thing. If you give up on your dreams for pure financial security, without trying, that’s tragic.

Money allows you to pursue your dreams. If you live in a box, I don’t care how much you enjoy your job, you’re still living in a box.

A job will get you the money, and grant you the time, to actually do what you want with your life.

You know what my ultimate dream is, to found a wolf shelter. And I can tell you that a doctors salary will get me there faster than a zoologists.

So much truth.
I wanted to be a priest but they turned me away when it turned out i’m an atheist.

Got a degree in international affairs only to realize noone really needs people with papers because everyone would rather hire a friend of a firend who barely speaks even english rather than someone slightely competent.

After wasting about 500$ on a psychologist who kept me busy with small talk while counting my their money i finally snapped when he cheerfully informed me that he’s raising the price for “consultation” by 25%.
Told him to eff off and left…
Oh and he “borrowed” my Bachelor’s work (It was about China and he claimed he often travels to china and was interested in reading it) and after nearly 2 years he still didn’t return it despite my constant nagging.
Makes me wonder what the hell he’s doing with it.

tl;dr
Should have tried becoming a priest harder.

My sister had the same problem. She graduated as and Engineer and now works a slightly higher form of Tech support and spends most of her time writing manuals, which she hates.

@Zincy
I usually like/agree with you but I think this is terrible, terrible advice. While sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to to live I don’t think we should give up on our dreams so easily.

And I wanted to be a zoologist, but I followed the money. Screw your dreams, go for what pays the best.
