“I’m on a big blue ball”
Not really, Luna hasn’t really had a real major role since LE other than SIP and her other appearances have all had her in a very different context than LE, they’ve had her as co-ruler of Equestria during various crisis’s not Princess going off to Ponyville to have a good time and stuff.
And again the idea that a few traits and a minute of backstory consitute personality is laughable.
All I see here is WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY HEADCANON WAS SHATTERED. Seriously, most of the things you mentioned were backstory elements (and Melanchoy was entirely in your head) not personality. on screen and in the present all she showed as being sorry to her sister. and Iv read most interviews with Faust and she never said anything like that, I do recall her saying she was supposed to be like a darker mentor for Twilight but not her having a big subplot. I don’t even particularly like Luna but the idea of Luna having personality before S2 is laughable.
You must admit he has something of a point.
Headcanon? Ha! We should crush all of it with canon! Let’s see how many fanfic writers drop out because they get butthurt too easily!
No it goes…
Fry me to the Moon,
and wet me pray among the stars
Wet me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars
In other words hold my hand
In other words darling kiss me
Fill my heart with song
And wet me sing forever more
You are all I wong for, all I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words I wove you
Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, darling, kiss me
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you
Love that song.
Luna’s appearance in the season 2 finale showed that she can be rather stern, and her appearance in the season 3 premier showed that she’s invested in the well fare of Equestria and that she doesn’t always agree with her sister. I don’t see how that is inconsistent with how she was portrayed before, and her being the protector of dreams is consistent with her being princess of the night.
“Luna Eclipsed” showed her to be quite complex. She wants to be appreciated, which she feels she’s never been, she’s powerful and intimidating but insecure, and she feels alienated both because she’s a thousand years out of touch and because she has the shadow of Nightmare Moon hanging over her head.
Before season two, all we knew about her was a minute and thirty second intro and one scene in which she said no more than two sentences.
Luna’s character from Season 2 onward has been an inconsistent mess with no real identity. She went from “so socially awkwerd xD” in LE to not really having any personality in the S2 finale and S3 premier to having fucking Freddy Kruger-esque abilities in SiP. The writers clearly have no idea what to do with her and are only keeping her around to appeal to mindless followers. Her color scheme from S2 onwards is too saturated, which is not only hard on the eyes but doesn’t match her melancholy personality as well as her original desaturated color scheme.
Lauren originally intended on building upon the conflict between Luna and her sister, where Luna would eventually come to accept working behind the scenes and being less appreciated than her sister while still playing an important role in the grand scheme of things. In the end, Hasbro claimed that Luna’s character was “too dark” and so she had to be completely overhauled, resulting in what we have now.
In regards to S1 Luna having no personality, that just isn’t true. She has some core traits; jealousy, melancholy, loneliness and a desire for approval and appreciation. It was something that could have been built upon if given the chance and just as importantly, it leaves plenty of room for interpretation and headcanon.
I have to say that, looking back on it now, I definitely prefer her season 2 and onward look. Not only do I like the updated “older” appearance a bit more, but the fact she finally got an actual personality that made her a big ham is awesome.
“Let me play among the zzzzzzzzzz…”
