I like the idea that the Elements reattaching themselves to new ponies causes enough disruption in the ambient magic of Equestria to weaken long-term spells. It could also have been that Nightmare Moon’s return was the precipitating event that weakened the ambient protective magic and made the Elements choose new bearers.
RE: Neighsay, my suspicion is that Celestia was taken in by the Canterlot nobility after she banished Nightmare Moon and she mostly restricted her duties to raising the sun, being the head of state, and fighting villains. The daily administration of Equestria was left to Canterlot ponies, who did not care too much about their procedures being properly followed outside of Canterlot, so long as the other towns did not make a show of violating Canterlot norms. Neighsay may have recognized that now there are 4 princesses and one of them enjoys paperwork, he is about to have much less decision-making power, so he may as well make a show on the way out.
Well, the benign answer would be that the reawakening of the Elements of Harmony had some sort of long term mystical effect that started reawakening other great powers. This is practically canon in Discord’s case, since it’s implied that the transfer to new bearers was the last major straw in breaking the seal on him.
…A more malevolent theory would be that Celestia herself was doing something to cause their returns, to be used as cannon fodder in Twi’s alicorn training.
Personally, as much as I harp on Celestia’s boneheaded decisions, I think it was just ‘because destiny said so,’ and Equestria just had bad luck that everything would break out back to back, but good luck in that it started happening after new heroes had risen to stop them.
Luckily for Celestia, since season 5, most of the villains have been mostly unrelated to her. …Aside from Neighsay. She should have swatted his ass out the door years ago.
I’d just want to know why all the sealed evil is being released at the precise time that Twilight happens to be alive.
Yeah she ‘won’…in non-permanent ways that seem to come back to bite her in a millennium or so…at which point she sends Twilight and co out to clean up HER mess.
Heck, Chrysalis is thus far the ONLY villain to apparently have no direct link to Celestia’s past…and she still had to have others take her out too.
…so, yeah, prepare to get toasted.
{fires a love beam and knocks Celestia’s ass out}
whacks head against a wall I can’t believe I used Alistair. Sorry. I’ve had a hectic day. I tend to get names mixed up. Sorry about that.
Who is this Alistair and how is he relevant to your picture of Solaire?
Alistair has a sun mark and he’s awesome.
And he’s also a Celestia supporter so watch your tongue.
Her cutie mark is a sun, not a boot kicking an ass.
Hey, she has a sexy figure.
When I think of it, I attribute it more to her wanting Twilight to grow up and be able to face the dangers of the world herself….And that she wants a break from saving the world all the time.
It’s because she’s fat and out of shape from being behind a desk for the last thousand years.
facepalm This is so true…WHY IS IT TRUE?!! I mean, she’s faced several foes in the past and she won, but now that she has the Elements of Harmony gang, She doesn’t do anything and is beaten easily.
Heck, even the comic showed her being able to take on an army of giant cockatrices and only getting a few scraps. (A good Spike moment too.)
