So your saying that the ancient ponies were actually ponies that had little to no resemblance culturally to the modern ponies ,and in terms of human comparison the story would have been a Persian act that was adopted by other cultures to suit their racial taste and ideology . I also imagine that most ponies, regardless of race, are majority working class underlings while the few elites oversee everything. There are exceptions to everything.

Fluttershy lives and works like a earth pony even though she is a pegasi; Snips, Snails, and Sweetie Belle are not exactly bright despite being unicorns; Bill Neigh the Science Pony from Twilight’s I wasn’t Prepared song was an example of an intellectual Earth Pony.
