Eh, really? If anything, looking at the earlier pictures seems to suggest that the fanon has completely flipped, since one seems to have him being fairly annoyed at being mistaken for a girl (FOR THE TENTH TIME), and another involves Crackle, “friendzoning”, and inverted coloring. Until this pic  
popped up, and then the current headcannon was fired up.
 
Frankly, I don’t care if the fanon decides to make his personality Pinkamenia-class psychotic, he’s actually getting art now at a fairly rapid rate. If this is what it takes to get him popular-er, then let’s keep it up!

Even with what little he’s gotten, people have already headcanon’d him as shy and clingy. And that was when he only had, like, two pictures.

Really, the way I see it is that the teenaged dragon that has essentially the same color scheme as a dragon that’s already appeared got the important role, while the teenaged dragon with quite a unique design ended up a background dragon. And unfortunately, background dragons are even less acknowledged than background ponies (frankly, most “background” ponies are very much acknowledged…), which is a shame.

/mlp/ seems to have developed quite the homolust for this guy, recently.
