  1. The first part of that comment was half-joking, that’s why I clarify when I begin speaking seriously and why I used the same “lost cause” phrasing the replied comment used for Discord.
  2. Just because I like Trixie does not mean she is incapable of being in the wrong; Much of her humor comes from the fact that she is in the wrong and the entertainment it brings. A fictional character does not need to be someone I would enjoy the company of in real life or even be morally respectable to be enjoyable on a tv show. Queen Chrysalis is debatably the antagonist least receptive to reform in FiM, and she is undeniably morally worse than Trixie, but I love her character too, because she is an entertaining villain.

Both Starlight and Trixie each committed crime twice, one is more forgiven than the other, Starlight had more resources, that also means she revealed her past to make Twilight became sympathy for her, while Trixie ain’t got that opportunity and committed crimes earlier like while Twilight was new to friendship things.

Fostering friendship is not the same as attempting to meddle in peoples’ personalities to improve them. She never actively attempts to make people less of a jerk (Trixie, Flim/Flam, Neighsay, every other single-episode jerk antagonist, etc.) because that’s not her job.
Twilight almost certainly already knows why, but that doesn’t help with this at all. Trixie would just lash out if Twilight tried to help.
Finally, the topic this post is about was resolved very quickly after Trixie became a recurring character. Trixie even admits in a later episode that she’s no longer jealous of Twilight, and she isn’t nearly as much of a jerk as she was in earlier seasons. Late-series Trixie is more naively insensitive than actively assholish, and Twilight doesn’t treat her with her former suspicion.

Yeah, she’s not a therapist, she’s the Princess of Friendship, it is quite literally her job. I disagree that Twilight trying to help would make things worse, getting to understand why Trixie feels this way about her is the first step to helping her improve.

Trixie’s best friend wants to kill her on an episodic basis; I love Trixie, but she is the definition of a lost cause. She’s a princess, not a miracle worker.
More seriously, friendship is a 2-way street. At worst, it is both Twilight and Trixie’s faults, but I think even saying that takes a lot of the agency out of Trixie’s actions.

Most of Trixie’s assholery is due to her being insecure compared to Twilight. Twilight trying to help would just make things worse. The other part is just a part of Trixie that she doesn’t see any issues with, which isn’t going to be a simple thing to change.
Also, it’s not Twilight’s responsibility to make every single jerk in her life become less of a jerk. She’s not a therapist.

Most of the characters who reform become kind, and Twilight treats them kindly in return. Trixie and Discord have one favorite person, and act annoying towards everyone else (and enjoy getting a rise out of Twilight in particular) even after they reform. I’d be annoyed too if I were in Twilight’s position.
