Sweet. Instead of being cross with Izzy for invading her personal space, Sunny accepts her.

You know this kind of stuff happened to as well back in the earlier days of Disney with Treasure Planet. Same thing pretty much happened. CEO’s changing in mid production and the new CEO not really caring about the prior’s plans and just wanting to do their own thing. Even if it causes loss and damage to their brand. I wouldn’t be surprised it the new CEO was a bean counter at some point.
Also why would Hasbro choose Atomic? Simple… money. Apparently there is some huge tax incentives for producing stuff out of Canada and guess where Atomic is based?

Yeah, that was one thing that really bothered me when I first learned about it. I mean, why would Hasbro choose a third party studio over a studio that they not only owned but already chose to make the animation for the film? Having different studios working on the same franchise would inevitably lead to communication issues regarding what exactly G5 was meant to be, not to mention the animation not looking consistent due to two completely different teams from completely different countries working on it. And to add insult to injury, Hasbro really did snub Boulder Media hard by moving the development of the series.
Honestly, in hindsight, you can definitely tell that G5 has had a pretty tumultuous development. Though I think a big reason for that is the parent company Hasbro changing CEOs in the middle of the development of G5. The film was largely headed by the prior CEO, who was also in charge of Hasbro for the run of G4. The current CEO doesn’t seem to care as much for MLP, though, as the past CEO did. Hence why he cut costs on MLP, resulting in cheaper animations, longer waits for episode releases, and less marketing for G5.
Leadership changes can really mess up a company. Hasbro is no exception.

How is it leaks when this is official Hasbro announcements? They are the ones that made these announcements. I mean I feel you are just holding out on some slim hope that MYM will continue. I mean… I hope so too, but it just seems like Hasbro has just given up on it. I mean I guess we’ll have to see, but for the foreseeable future its only going to be TYT baby time adventures being produced.

It doesn’t matter about Boulder media as MYM was done by Atomic Cartoons. Hasbro made the decision early apparently to switch production for Make your Mark to Atomic over Boulder. Apparently the folks at Boulder were not too happy either about the change.

I think that selling Boulder Media means more. I thought that Boulder would have fit jn better with their desire to make more media projects for their core brands. After all, Boulder is a very well known animation studio with a lot of experience. So selling it definitely does suggest that something is wrong at Hasbro. After all, now they have no in-house animation studios.
As for eOne, well, part of me felt like that was inevitable. eOne was a film studio that focused on indie projects that didn’t fully align with Hasbro’s brand identity. Early on they sold the eOne record label (which owned Def Jam) for that very reason. But the sale of Boulder has always made less sense to me. That’s why I believe Hasbro is planning on winding down G5 production.

I mean come on… Even I was holding out on that as well, but its just so obvious that Hasbro is moving away from Make your Mark to put all their chips into Tell your Tale. The sale of eOne. The choice to go with Atomic Cartoons instead of Boulder Media. Hasbro themselves saying Tell your Tale will be the “one premier source of pony going into 2024”. We just cannot deny the evidence stacked against us. Sad to say but Hasbro early on screwed over Make your Mark when they dumped the studio that was doing the movie, and was originally planned to be the studio to do the series as well. They want their baby time adventure that is Tell your Tale.

Yeah I agree that by Chapter four things do defiantly get better. I mean I honestly didn’t even care that the animation had declined from ANG to MYM. I know there would have been a drop because the budget for the movie and show where totally separate. Like one budget was for an hour or so long movie, and another was for an entire series. They were even getting better animation wise by the time we hit chapter four. It’s just so many missed opportunities and potential. Sunny losing so much of who she was in the movie. Inspiring, driven, hopeful… Just such a well thought out character. Izzy too just felt so good. A Pinkie Pie done right. Even Hitch was just done so well. Granted Zipp and Pipp didn’t have much to say (it was obviously clear Sunny and Izzy was the focus), but they still felt good.
However once we hit the series its like the writing team completely forgot (or didn’t even care), who the characters where. Hitch by far was the worst with Sunny right behind him.

Will say MYM chapter 1 is by far the worst of the chapters and it does get better. Maybe not enough to be great but it’s something.

That hasn’t been confirmed.
Leaks don’t always give the most up to date information. It didn’t even directly say it would end just nothing about 2024

To me, all that matters is G4 existed. Hasbro could kill MLP for good, say that there is just no more interest in it, and I wouldn’t mind. With how great G4 was, they don’t need to make anything else.
However, I would prefer it if Hasbro sold off the MLP brand so someone who actually cared. I think Spin Master Entertainment is a good candidate for a potential spin-off of the MLP franchise. They tend to do quite well supporting their Paw Patrol series, and I could definitely see them giving a similar level of investment into MLP. At the very least it would result in a more visually consistent series, as well as a more narratively consistent series. It could also result in more MLP films as well, even some produced by Boulder Media who animated the A New Generation film.

I agree with you. Honestly I never even paid any attention to Generation 5 at all at first. I simply dismissed it until two years later. When I Subbed to Netflix. Not even for Generation 5, but for Sonic Prime. G5 was just there so why not right? I was completely blow away with just how good the movie was for the new generation. I mean the characters, scenery everything was just so good. It felt so alive and so… It was just unbelievable. I was just shocked that Hasbro actually took it that far. Now granted the Story for ANG was… well it left a lot of questions. Still it was such a great setup. Then I watched the first chapter of MYM… What in the hell happened? I mean we all know now, but damn… It wasn’t a decline, it was a straight drop off a cliff.
Then I watched Tell your Tale… My god is this what they want for MLP going forward? Because man its just so childish. I know they say they are targeting kids, but this is what they want? Its like a straight up insult coming off what G4 had done and established.

I’ve watched ANG for, I guess, at least 20 times. Yet don’t dare to watch MYM and TYT yet, I guess I just don’t want to break the beauty which these characters imprinted in my mind.
Seems that G5 has awesome characters, yet didn’t build a well-rounded worldview, making it hard to develop the story after the movie. G4’s worldview is good, the history, the geography, the mode how the world runs…
Maybe in the future there’ll be a person who do things like what Lauren Faust did, liking characters in G5 and creating characters and worldview of G8 😂

When Hasbro actually tried to take MLP into a new generation. Complete with some stellar visual and 3d art style. But sadly all we get left with is a mediocre 2d silly laugh track in the end.
