I need to point out that Linux is not a full operating system. It’s just a kernel. Did you mean to say “GNU/Linux sucks!”?

Windows average users: “Wow, Linux just does stuff without nagging me to subscribe to anything! This is easy!”
Easy until their system breaks and they have to use the commandline to fix it (which they’ve never seen before let alone know how to use), if they were even able to install a GNU/Linux system themselves in the first place. Many don’t even know what an .iso is.
I use Alpine–oh wait. No I don’t.

I used to think windows was bad, then became software programmer, now I think everything is bad. With Linux you at least have a choice how bad it is going to be.
LoL

If it’s possible for someone to hack your GNU/Linux system (which it is, and this is all it takes to hack a system), you aren’t safe. You’re relying on obscurity for security and not actually taking measures to harden your system in the unlikely event that someone does target you. It doesn’t matter if something is realistic. What matters is that it’s possible.
And many security experts will agree that GNU/Linux isn’t secure. And all of the different distros use the same system components (X11, systemd, etc.) so any vulnerability would affect almost every GNU/Linux distro.
Despite this I still use GNU/Linux anyway because fuck Windows.

I never meant this as in, “its more secure.” I was trying to say, “its easier to secure.” Which is basically what you just said.
Very few are targetting Linux based systems because its not a big market like Windows and Mac OS. Add that there are hundreds of different flavors of Linux.
Your kept safe merely because its not realistic to hack a Linux based system. Unless your a big Linux server of a billion dollar company its not worth it.

Not really. Security by obscurity is the dumbest idea in computer security. GNU/Linux doesn’t get as many viruses because it’s not as big a target as Windows, not because it’s more secure (which it isn’t btw). And you don’t need an antivirus because Windows has one built-in which works better than any third-party antivirus (which are all scams).

That is until you get hit by one. Like the Money-Pak virus. Your computer held hostage until you pay the ransom.
Although there are less extreme ones. Like hidden ones that slow your system down. Basically your computer acts like a barrowed IP address. Others are more anoying like a fake antivirus. Pay X amount for Y and Y will remov Z amount of problematic software.
On linux its very rare to get a virus. Although when you do its easy to fix. Un-install X item and then run package manager to fix broken packages.

GNU/Linux is difficult to learn and when something breaks, you’re screwed unless you’re some computer expert who knows everything about hardware and computer programming. It’s also a security hell and many of your favorite games and apps will not work (not even with WINE). But I still use it anyway because Windows and Mac are much worse.
@LP2Lily
Virus protection/Antivirus is a scam. You don’t need it.

Its not difficult to learn Just time consuming. Once tweaked and custom programs are written it can be a powerful system.
Virus protection is easier and does not requir payement like windows and microsoft.
