This is why it would have been better if it included the images of what confirmed their orientation. Any why images may not be the best place for such as they limit the ability to argue for/include evidence for/debate over these issues.

LOL not even close, when images like this were posted five or six years ago they’d get a hundred handfuls of poop hurled at the comment section in an hour or less and then get comment-locked or deleted because people were threatening to knife each other over cartoon horses having girlfriends.

Not to mention that, as I once again feel obligated to point out, she ended the series of 2016 tweets (including the one Peter New responded to that is being used for this chart) by specifically stating that none of them should be considered canon.

Which is probably for the best. Believing everything Lauren ever said was 100% canonical leads to some weird issues.

Although to be fair, that Rainbow Dash one seems entirely believable.

Good intentions!?! It was a decision from corporate. No bravery or morality involved. The only thing that matters to them is getting money and boosting their reputation to get more money. Just look at all of the pride month garbage, a fer weeks of putting a rainbow on their logo on their American website only to get rid of it and pretend it never happened while adamantly denying it in the rest of the world.

i just fully support good intentions ;)

not everyone but lots of people denying these couples either have other headcanons in mind (such as shippers), are homophobic (and they DO exist, they truly do trust me) or then again there could be other reasons, sure! i’m just happy there was an lgbt implication within the main cast because i think it’s courageous. in my opinion the less courageous part lies within the ‘left to interpretation’ post on twitter, but hey it’s the staff decision after all (and i perfectly understand why they had to do that)
anyway i think i’m done here. i support any lgbt moves made in cartoons but that’s my choice, some will support it only if it’s ‘well-made’ and that’s ok i guess. to me appledash became a thing and i’m happy i can enjoy it with friends of mine.

Oh yeah, the best character development always happens off screen. I mean who doesn’t love a completely disconnected before and after that has absolutely nothing going on to show that it’s even a possible trajectory for the character arcs prior to the timeskip.

except this is happening in the future. time has passed, the mane six had all had a close friendship. The fact that 2 of them get eventually together in a very distant future (we’re talking about yeaaars and years, many decades probably) shouldn’t be that surprising

Believing that two characters that have shown absolutely no signs of attraction to each other beyond a platonic relationship over the course of 9 seasons, several movies, and a large number of comics (prior to the release of the episode in question) can be turned canonically gay by an order from some corporate exec to fill a representation quota takes orders of magnitude more mental gymnastics than believing they just became roommates for some undisclosed reason

dash and jack aren’t canon. not even sure where you got ocellus and big mac from but they definitely aren’t.

love how so many people are bothered by this post. like ok some of these infos were left up to interpretation, it’s true, but that’s mainly because of homophobes and closeted countries such as russia. and again, background couples such as lyrabon are ok because they’re in the background. scootaloo aunts are ok too because they’re very minor characters.

if a male and female came in having that argument about chores (the one rd and aj had in the final) there wouldn’t be this debate over if they were an old married couple or not. then again, if you’d rather assume these characters ain’t lgbt then free to you to say it, it requires more mental gymnastics but if you’re really against lgbt stuff being canon then do what you want. i think the worst people though are these rarijack shippers would’d join these homophobic crowds out of spite, still salty over the fact that they were written as a couple in equestria girls (and a cute one as that, blushing and stuff) but just as friends in equestria.

I feel like you realize that we dont control canon. Also the 1 pic i showed of a va talking ab their thing was responding to a writer who shared the same thing. Also even for some things like that, its something thats decided by the writers lol. People who work on the show can canonize characters personal things, like they work with the writers as well my mans.

You’re even starting to contradict yourself in your comments. How many times have you now said “The show has tons of contradictions in its own canon”, and yet you posted this image to say “This is the REAL canon, according to me, contradictions don’t matter.

A voice actor does not have control over their character’s sexuality. They don’t have control over much of anything about their character. If you were somehow hired to provide a new voice for Goku, and then went on Twitter to say Goku is bisexual, that doesn’t make Goku bisexual. Voice actors can have headcanons just like the rest of us, and for the most part they’re free to express them as long as it doesn’t get them into any legal trouble with their employers. It doesn’t make it canon though.

Likewise, Faust’s tweet in 2016 holds the same amount of water, since she had left the show in the hands of others by this point. In 2016 Faust didn’t have a say in what direction the show was going. If she suddenly decided one day that Discord was polyamorous, you think she could just call up Hasbro on the fly and say ‘make it happen’? Faust has already gone on record stating that one of the reasons she left the show in the first place was a “lack of creative control”. After she’s already left the show after season 2, she’s gonna have way way less control. But, again, she is free to have her own headcanon interpretations, and it’s true that they may hold more water because she is the character’s original creators, but that still doesn’t make it CANON.

As for the comics, then we get into a bit of trickery with language, specifically how you define canon. Is Ocellus into girls? Based on a panel in the comics it’s a pretty good indicator that she is…according to comics canon. As repeatedly stated, the comics have no influence on the show itself. So if the show had continued past its end, it’s perfectly within reason that the showrunners would decide to make Ocellus straight, despite the comics canon. How do YOU define canon in this picture? Talking about the show itself, or just “they’re gay in SOME kind of canon, one or the other”.

Well i mean its hard to show him being ace since its a kid show, ace is a weird spot compared to ones like bi / homo since u can actually see the diff in attraction. Ace u cant since its sexual attraction lol. Also him being ace was confirmed by stephen in an interview in 2002 so we’ve known forever.
Also on the pride month stuff, anything to do with pride month and kids shows will be blown out of proportion, its the norm ig
