Nope. I think biggest difference may be in art style (more or less).

Yup, we’re getting G5 for almost every taste. I plan on watching both series and find a way to read the comics.

If there’s going to be a Mane 6 in G5, a brand new unicorn character would be the sixth member. The group has two earth ponies, two pegasi and one unicorn, there needs to be a balance.
I still think it is just a power up. In other medias she just has multicolored mane.
