Description

Alrighty so this is a REDUX of my old half-assed nextgen (hence the name Duxverse). I’m putting effort into it this time! My boy Nova got quite the glowup. You can look forward to seeing more refs in the future!
Name: Nova Spiral
Gender, pronouns: Male, he/him
Species: Unicorn pony
Cutie mark, special talent: Two scrolls, one rolled up and one unfurled, under a spotlight, symbolizes Nova’s talent in theatrical writing
Occupation: Theatre director
Parents: Twilight Sparkle and []
Siblings: Wonderstruck, Starla Dawn
Though he likes to pretend to be posh and distinguished while he’s working, Nova is an awkward guy. When he isn’t at the Ponyville Theatre, he spends most of his time at home, working on scripts or organizing (and reorganizing and re-reorganizing) his workspace. He’s dedicated to his craft and works hard at every aspect of his job, mainly because he’s always anxious about getting things done on time. He enjoys alone time, but also thrives in a situation where he can take control and make sure things are done right. As a director and manager, he’s focused and determined, and has little patience for slip-ups. He tends to hold others to the same standards to which he holds himself, which can be annoying, and a bit intimidating. Overall, though, he’s a nice stallion who’s passionate about the arts and wants to contribute to them as much as he can.
As the oldest of three, Nova has taken on the role of babysitter, entertainer, teacher, and protector for his younger sisters. He loves his them immensely, even when they get on his nerves.
He’s especially proud of Starla’s skills in creative writing, as he was the one who inspired her to pursue the hobby in the first place. He loves reading what she writes and giving her tips and feedback. Even as a teenager, he still sees Starla as his baby sister.
He gets along well with Wonder most of the time, but she has trouble expressing affection in non-obnoxious ways. Nova often has to hide scripts and other works-in-progress from the pegasus so she won’t snoop through them and muss up the pages and the organization. He knows her jokes about him being a nerd or a recluse aren’t meant to be malicious, but he can still lose his patience with her sometimes.
When the three of them were younger, they were much closer. They would gather in the living room every night and Nova would read to them from a book of their choosing, doing silly voices and sound effects to make his sisters laugh. They made their way through dozens of books as the tradition continued, but it eventually faded away when Nova started working at the theatre. He misses it sometimes.
One of Nova’s closest friends is Rarity’s daughter, Jewelia. They’ve been friends since childhood, and have seen each other through hard times, awkward teen years, and school-related stress. Jewelia understands Nova more than most ponies do. His work self and his casual self are vastly different, but Jewelia knows him well enough to see through his faux-professionalism. She reminds him to be courteous and give others leeway to make mistakes. Nova values Jewelia’s friendship immensely, and trusts her more than anypony else.
Jewelia trusts Nova as well. While most ponies are scared of or disgusted by her strange appearance, Nova thinks she’s perfectly normal. This is probably because his father, Twilight Sparkle, is a teacher at a school that houses all kinds of creatures, and he grew up regularly interacting with dragons, griffons, hippogryphs, yaks, and everything in between. Jewelia admires Nova’s ability to take command of a room and inspire cooperation, even in complete strangers. Jewelia also introduced Nova to another one of his friends, Summer Breeze.
