The unicorns would be the only ones who could rival their power and were identified as a threat.
Also is it just me, or did the Alicorn monarchy heavily favor unicorns?
They really had nowhere else to go after escaping the alicorn monarchy.
I can imagine the descendants of unicorn nobility weeping at the glory days of unicorns when they used to be seen as the most cultured and elegant of all creatures.
And I can imagine them blaming the loss of magic on an Earth Pony-Pegasus conspiracy to rid the world of magic.
One day they shall regain their prestige and all other races will look to them in awe again.

from what I can gather, earth ponies are seen as stupid, pegasi are thought to be evil, and unicorns are viewed as monsters. and if that is true, I feel those beliefs were what caused unicorns to be chased into the forests.
and as stated before, a strong majority of unicorns highly valued their magic and I don’t find it off that most unicorns went insane from both loss of magic and isolation in the forests, so now superstitious chants are pretty much the closest thing they have.
