Awesome answer, thank you. Totally forgot that happened, this would explain a lot. I wonder if the changelings even exist anymore, they could just be plain bug creatures with no changing powers, hmmm. I cant wait to see some other creatures like the dragons and yaks and Kirins in this new CGI.
The old monsters might no longer exist. Don’t forget, the season 8 finale of FiM (which also involved magic disappearing from Equestria) showed that some of the monsters previously seen in Equestria were actually multiple ordinary animals magically combined. And that they would revert to those ordinary animals when drained of that magic.
It is entirely possible the monsters never rose up because, once the world lost the kind of magic that existed in Twilight’s time, they vanished as well.
I…. i think it’s a floating house with balloons attached?
Maybe an “UP” reference?
Same level as current year seems a bit of a stretch.
All indications are that only the three pony tribes have been affected by what may be a deliberate curse that may have taken advantage of the contradictions between the pegasi, unicorns and earth ponies to become invulnerable. The other non-ponies like kirins and hippogriffs may have avoided the loss of magic. We just need to look at the abyssinians to be able to survive without magic on Equus, even if the spell master behind the curse (if it’s a villain, he might be the “tyrant of Despair”, Sunny`s final opponent in the G5 ) had hoped that the magic monsters and hostile magic people would succeed, it had failed.
What made Everfree so dangerous is the mysterious dark magic that had to be held back, no matter how much the deers can do, and after my headcanon it could be where Grogar had Tambleon. Whether Twilight managed to drain the dangerous magic or whether it will be exhausted - perhaps by the villain who must have a lot of magical power behind the curse - will be easy to deal with the forest. We do not yet know where Bridlewood is located, possibly in the same valley as Everfree that may have taken over Ponyville in the meantime. There is certainly a reason why unicorns have got such deadly horns.
The pegasi is militaristic and will not hesitate to slaughter all the monsters that threaten them, already in the G4 there are weapons that do not require magic, they have after all explosives and gunpowder-based firearms - and the ponies seemed to master air-powered weapons, as seen Pinkie Pie and her cannon. The earth ponies according to the movie may have mastered vehicle technology so much, that they can build “mecha” or robots - as in the Pacific Rim movies.
Technologically, the Ponykind is on the same level as us humans in the year 2021. Although there seem to be different technological levels between the three tribes, there are no insurmountable obstacles. And we never show mercy to man-eating unnatural monsters. It may be the same rule in the G5, where technology had to replace magic.
Oh yeah the deer did use somekind of potion magic, if that still works. They would make great guardians of any forest lands. I hope the Kirins and hippogriffs are doing ok?
I’m more worried about the bigger monsters, the bugbears and giant pony eatting Eagles.
Speaking of the Evergreen forest, I wonder if the fast invading plants could be a factor in why we see the ponies out west? It took the two princess alot of energy just to fight the forest off from taking over Ponyville.
If the disappearance of the magic was meant to make the Ponykind vulnerable to the monsters and other magical people, then it has failed for two reasons;
First, that the ponies are more technologically capable than expected, the movie suggests a kind of “mecha” technology of the earth ponies - and projectile weapons were not unknown in the G4. For a thousand years, Celestia had purged Equestria of monsters so effectively that she disbanded the monster hunter organization before Twilight moved to Ponyville. Only Everfree was left. And it is possible that Twilight ended the monsters, Everfree may have lost the unnatural magic during her reign. (and if the intelligent deer people from the IDW comics are taken into the G5 (it can be interesting …), they can take over Everfree and get the monsters there under their own control) The ponies can become very violent in the face of ordinary predators, their intelligence and body strength exceeded what predators are used to. The pegasi understand discipline, the earth ponies understand unity, and the unicorns have very sharp horns. Horses on the plains of our world hate wolves so much that they happily trampled them to death.
Secondly; it may have been too effective, that other magic users like the dragons may be so intimidated, that they will flee when they do not understand how the Ponykind lost the magic, and fear to experience the same. After all, the ponies were among the strongest among the magical beings. Even the most arrogant magical creatures will panic when they see how the Ponykind who dominated the whole world magically would lose their magic. They may decide to quarantine Equestria indefinitely.
If that is the case, the Mane 5 will face a number of challenges when it comes to uniting Equestria and establishing contact with non-ponies.
monsters like the Timberwolves or alpha majors or other magic based creatures, but there were still a lot of non-magic beasts that were hungry for pony meat.
The trailer isn’t gonna show everything, they might even run into something on there adventures for action based character developments.
Maybe the lack of magic had an effect on the monsters?
It might be an inside joke in the movie, probably an innocent background pony who got trapped up in some escaping balloons and is floating aimlessly around. A basic movie gag.
But who is the pony that flies with the balloons? In a world without active magic that could be used to manipulate its own weight as the pegasi had demonstrated - and a lone earth pony - it would not be possible. Could it be Pinkie Pie who had manifested herself in the realm of the mortal to observe them?
I hope you know I want this line to become a cliche now.
Oh definitely
I can’t wait to watch it in cinema.
This movie is really beautiful. It’ll probably look really good on the big screens. Hope it will hit theaters eventually.
