I fully understand that. But unlike any other character, there is nothing left of the original Shining Armor besides the name and appearance AND his name no longer fits with what he is doing. I don’t mind Pony Life in general, but he was the only “returning” character in the show who made me ask “why him, specifically?”

IMO, they didn’t need to bring Shining Armor specifically for this episode. They could have make a completely new pony to fill that role and the plot wouldn’t change at all. They didn’t even acknowledge him being related to Twilight (if he was) or treat him like a princess’ spouse (if he was one). Just like a regular pony.

Contrast that to Cadance’s cameo, where they treat her like an important quasi-celebrity pony, which I’m okay with, despite being different from G4.

Cheerilee’s role was also fine. Completely different from her G4 counterpart, but at least her name fits for what she’s doing (which cannot be said for Shining Armor).

Because there’s almost no difference in the mare and stallion body types in this series. The only differences are in the muzzle (stallions have slightly bigger and more bulbous muzzles) and torso (stallions have slightly bigger and thicker torsos). Ironically enough, there are female characters in Pony Life who use the male body type (such as Matt #2 and a few background characters).
